    STOP 0x116 = VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE
"This indicates that an attempt to reset the display driver and recover from a timeout failed."

First thing to check is whether ATI/AMD has a later version of the display driver, or if there are known issues with the verison you are currently on.

Also, you are running Vista SP1, it would also be worthwhile considering putting SP2 on as it has been out for quite a while now.

If you have anything overclocked then it would also be wise to return to stock levels to see if it improves stability.

What are the components exactly ?
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

    Re: games causing BSOD help??

What brand & model is the PSU?
The "no-name" brand PSUs sometimes have a reputation of not providing a steady voltage, so the stated peak wattage is made irrelevant.

If the symtoms or frequency of the problem don't change with different drivers, I would be thinking:
    - problem with the graphics card
    - problem with the power fed to the graphics card
    - overheating

Maybe try running Memtest to see if the RAM is fine. Also could it be the case that the hot P4 is overheating ?

hm, its not hot to the touch (the heatsink) i mean granted it gets warm but not to warm that you cannot touch it, also ran mem test and all came back fine, im pretty sure its the gpu drivers TBH i just wish i could pinpoint the problem!

Check CPU temps with software - heatsink surface temperature isn't very accurate especially if the heatsink is loose or something.

cpu temps are ok, im going to be getting the pc brought back to mine so i can run some real hardcore tests on it, i cant get it to force a BSOD though...it will just do it randomly in game...what could cause this??

If benchmarking doesn't cause BSODs then I'd be looking towards either the drivers or the games themselves. How many games does it happen with? If it's more than one then try completely removing GPU drivers with something like this then reinstalling the latest drivers from here or if it's just the one then try reinstalling the game.

well ive not tryed driver cleaner but it is happening with all the games, the stop error that the blue screen is giving, does that just indicate the drivers failing?? or anything else?

Unfortunately the best that can be determined is that the STOP is caused by the display driver, but whether this is a purely software issue with the driver itself, or is caused by an underlying problem with the card (or slot it is plugged into) when under stress is impossible to determine.

User-mode processes can't cause bugchecks, so the games themselves are just creating the load that is provoking the problem down in the driver (hence why almost any game can trigger the issue).

If the STOP code is consistent then it means the issue is definitely isolated to that driver, device or the bus it is connected to - i.e. it's not a general CPU, RAM or disk issue.
