Woke Up, Turned On PC, Monitor Won't Wake Up

My system isn't turning on for some reason. I turn it on and hear the GPU fan spinning on maximum (it's the only fan that would do this pre-POST as the CPU has a H50 cooler) and the monitor doesn't turn on.

    I've tried:
    1. Resetting the CMOS
    2. Leaving only 1 stick of RAM in

Any ideas? Just got back from my parents for Christmas and now this. :'(

whip the bios battery out for half an hour wiht the mains out, failing that rmeove everything and boot with a reseated video card and cpu + ram only

Re: Woke Up, Turned On PC, Monitor Won't Wake Up

Ok I think I didn't actually reset the CMOS properly the first time. This time I turned it on and it turned off immediately, turned on again, turned off immediately, then back in the same situation as before.

The GPU fan is on 100%, it's definitely not a problem with the monitor. I'll try taking everything else out.

Ok I reset the CMOS again, now it's just the CPU, Mobo, Memory and GFX plugged in. Same result.

So something's physically broken I guess? What do you think it is, GFX or CPU?

Re: Woke Up, Turned On PC, Monitor Won't Wake Up

It's more far likely to be the gpu (esp. as the fan is at 100% on) than the cpu, though these can, and do, fail occasionally. Of course it may not be either of the cpu or gpu, the frustrations of being a pc owner can,at times, be limitless.

If you can try a diff. gpu, from a friends pc if you do not have a spare.

If it were the CPU that had burnt out, wouldn't the GPU fan still be on 100% as the mobo wouldn't be able to POST and tell it the temperature/fan speed, or are they self-regulating?

Edit: Will hopefully have a spare GPU tomorrow that I can try.

Thanks guys, fixed it.... was the GPU! An old 8800GT out of warranty (in fact, BFG have gone bust anyway). Wanted to get a new one anyway, now's my chance.
