    Video tape to computer

    Hello:

I have given up on trying to transfer video to dvd. No one has the right equipment here, and I do not want to buy a unit. So, while I am also investigating prices stores charge for transfer, I want to see what is necessary to connect the video player directly to my computer, hardwarewise and softwarewise. Any wise advice?

    Regards,

    Hans L

    that will do.

you can get scart to rca if the video recorder only has scart.

    Re: Video tape to computer

My video player/recorder definitely have only RCA.
    Great, GoNz0. Thanks!

Now, do I need a special card or will my graphics and audio cards in the computer be enough?

    And what about software?

    Regards,

    Hans L

I bought the EasyCap (Amazon USA), installed the drivers, connected EasyCap, but it does not show up in Device Manager – Image Devices. It is a disk for Win 7 64-bit (which I have).

When I reinstall, option "Repair" shows that the drivers are installed. I repair, same outcome. Drivers are somewhere on my computer, but when I attach EasyCap, nothing happens. (except that the EasyCap green light comes on).

Any suggestion what I should try?

    Regards,

    Hans L

    Re: Video tape to computer

I had this prob using 'easycap' . . I'm using xp but ''''' In device manager click on the + symbol on the sound video and game controller section. If the driver is installed correctly you should see ' USB AUDIO DEVICE'. If it has a yellow mark next to it then this means that the driver is not installed correctly. you will need to remove the driver and disconnect the video grabber from the computer and re-connect it to install the driver again''''''' This para is part of the installation guide for the 'Zennox easycap video grabber. Don't know if this is the same as your's but have a look as it may solve your problem.

    Re: Video tape to computer

    Thank you, Merdat.

I found "SMI Grabber Device" under sound video and game controller after realizing that something was wrong with the USB extension cable. I plugged EasyCap into a USB hub. Drivers started installing. However, I got these messages:

    SM-USB 007 Device unplugged
SMI Grabber Device Ready to use

Doing the same in a USB port on the computer did not seem to resolve anything. But I will try again. I have uninstalled everything, and unplugged, so, during the weekend sometimes, I will try again.

    Wish me luck! :-)

Hope you get driver thing sorted as 'easycap' works quite well once you get it going. good luck.

    Re: Video tape to computer

That looks interesting - thanks Gonz0!

However, I did do a bit of research and found this

http://www.ezcap.tv/ - so it may be why the Amazon device is so cheap - it has been superceded. I haven't done very much research into it, but might be worth doing so. On the other hand, for the price, its probably worth a punt just to try it out!

    The updated version is here:

Been helped or just 'Like' a post? Use the Thanks button!

    Re: Video tape to computer

Peter, great information. I think I am going to cut my losses (I think I paid $14.00+ for the EasyCap), since I have all kinds of problems with EasyCap, and I'll put up another $30.00 for the EzCAP 116 USB 2.0 video capture device at Amazon.com (USA). My time is, at the moment, too valuable (not in money, but in jobs that I have to complete) to experiment with possibly faulty hardware. (And I am not very versed in video/audio hardware/software either, but is eager to learn, but rather with good stuff :-)

I'll report back on how it goes.

    Regards,

    Hans L
