Bad Day - Part 2

Carrying on from Bad Day - Part 1, I got home and thought the first thing I needed to do was to get my CV updated and contact my agencies. I had been on the computer in the morning, only about 2 hours.

Turned on the computer, turned on the monitor and turned on the speakers as normal. Only, the monitor didn't kick in and buzz as normal, it sat there displaying a blank screen.

FFS, why today??

Checked the cabled into the graphics card, was fine. Opened up the case and reseated the card, still nothing. Unplugged everything leaving just the GPU, still nothing. Reset the CMOS, and still nothing.

I have a DFI LANParty NFII Ultra-B with 2x512MB Crucial RAM and an XP-M 2500+. My graphics card is an XFX 6800GT 256MB AGP and the whole system has been working flawlessly for ages, even this morning. But now, it doesn't, for absolutely no reason, except to kick me when I'm down!!

Oh yeah, LED 4 is stuck on when trying to boot and I can only find graphics card related problem with LED 4, though I don't know the exact code problem. Other people who have had LED 4 come on have had problems like the power is not plugged into the card (which it is) and the 12v power cable isn't plugged into the Mobo (which it is).

Please can anyone help me and relieve this god awful day?

I just swapped the 6800GT for an old GrForce 2 card lying about (can't remember which one exactly, and now LED's 1 and 2 are lit...

Where can I find out what these LED's mean? DFI's site is crap, all the help pages are "under construction"!

Scrap that, restartde and it showed LED 4 again. It even shows LED 4 without the graphics card plugged in, so I'm hoping it might not be my 6800GT!!

Mayhaps its the mobo that has been borked? Always worth reseating everything one last time!

Crap, I sold my spare. Will have to nick my girlfriends (my old) PC.

Yup, smells like the mobo has gone. One of my old ones did something similar, was fine one minute, then the next it was dead..

Pooh pooh pooh. Well, things always come in 3's, what's next??

Yes, but that's not the point. Turn around for an RMA coul dbe weeks with DFI, I need my PC back now. It has my CV on it and contact details for my agencies etc, and I couldn't bare to use my girlfriends PC for more than necessary, but it looks like I'll have to.

Now, where's that Adware/Spyware hammer!!

Take the HDD out of your PC and put it in your girlfriend's PC temporarily, then you can access all your documents. Then you won't have a problem until you RMA your motherboard

That is a temporary solution I'm going to have to do. I will be ordering a new mobo soon (can't wait for RMA), dunno which one though.

Erm, OK, well after about an hour of it being off, it's finally turned on.

used to have one of those boards, did the same thing i simply reset my bios and it was fine. And the error Lights Afraid to say RTFM

it doesn't mention the error lights in the manual - just beep codes, even then it doesn't say what they are properly..

Good to see it's fixed itself for now anyway
