So I was merrily resizing my main NTFS partition to split it into two when Partition Magic died on me. I'm left with a system that starts to boot then blue screens part way through so there's definitely data there but I can't do a repair because the Windows install disk says the partition is empty (I'm guessing the partition table is buggered).
I'm posting this from Knoppix which also fails to mount the partition...
knoppix@0[mnt]$ mount /mnt/hda2
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/hda2,
missing codepage or other error
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
dmesg | tail
dmesg output is...
NTFS-fs error (device hda2): load_system_files(): Failed to load $Bitmap.
NTFS-fs error (device hda2): ntfs_fill_super(): Failed to load system files.
Personally I think I'm screwed, if anyone else has any ideas that might help me access the data to copy it off then I'd be exceptionally grateful.
