    Geez, it's £70 usually!

Looks a funny affair...How easy is it to cut aluminium to add a blow hole?

EDIT: It's got a fixed back plate...

My advise is to switch from air cool to water cooling - with your case being able to use the 120mm fan slots then I would go for this:
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=174654

It's what I did - took temps of 50ish to the mid 30s - plus because you are cooling the GPU and the northbridge fan at the same time it will reduce the noise level of your case by removing the fans from those - I would also recommend taking the side fan out - they actually cause more disruption to your air flow - I would do this even if you do not switch to the water cooling solution I suggested above.

Having said all that, if you do not want to change to water cooling (and for the life of me I do ot know why) then look at getting a high cf low noise 120mm fan for the exaust. Again, if you are gonna stick with the air cooling then switch your cpu fan to something like:
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=129198
It runs quite warm but is dead quiet!

Thanks for that. If I hadn't just got my freezer then I would have probably gone with that.

I've heard the freezer is pretty silent anyway. I'll knnow better tomorrow when all my stuff comes.

I wouldn't advise making a hole at top. My tower has a hole at top and when i turned the fan up there off, could feel the difference in terms of noise.

If you have rubber/gel put them before the case and fan. That should at least cut the vibration. I'm going to keep airflow going to the back off PC and with it so will the noise (hopefully).

'blowholes' are ideally positioned IMHO - hot air rises, guess where's a good place for an 'extract' fan? I had a 80mm fan in there until a week ago - very quiet as i'd bought a quiet fan (perhaps yours was a noisy one - mine was inaudible) - but i wanted to up the airflow so i've fitted a 120mm fan there. Still no noise but this in conjunction with a 120mm on the rear of the case has dropped case temps significantly.

Thanks for that. I've ordered my fans - now need a dremel or something to do it with!

Would I be ok with a £20 one from B&Q?

Yes you're right, the fans are the ones shipped with case and i suspected that may be contributing to the noise along with usual suspects. They are all 80mm as well and 4 of them at that. I have ordered an akasa ambar model for rear which are suposedly more quiet along with quieter heatsink, Other problem i face is the fan came with case connects to molex and not 3 pin. Lets not forget 2 HD fans as well. So at the moment it's rear vs top as i'm trying to reduce noise. PSU has a fan facing down as well..

If the hole at top is for 80mm fans, will a 120mm make a big difference without adding to noise.. which 120mm fan did you add if you dont mind me asking ?

Probably - if you're cutting metal you might get through a few cutter disks tho. I'd highly recommend wearing safety specs and long sleeved shirt/overalls and perhaps gloves. My dremel is the only tool to scare the living hell out of me every time i use it and when cutting you run the risk of the disc snapping and flying off at ~33,000 rpm and embedding itself in the nearest soft object (your eyes for example). Take your time when doing it and hold the thing very steady, do it outside if possible (metal/plastic goes everywhere) and do it with nothing in the case (because that will get covered too!). Vacuum it all down well when done

Yes my original (coolermaster) fans that came with my case were VERY noisy (especially the blowhole) so i swapped them out a couple of years back and was amazed by the difference. 120mm fans will generall move a lot more air and spin at a lower rpm (especially when undervolted [~7v]) so make far less noise. I just picked up a blue LED lit one off ebay - my experience with 120mm fans is that if your going to drop the voltage then don't bother with the expensive 'low noise' ones. The rear fan is a silenx that i had lying round - i can't tell the difference between the two. Most of the noise from big fans is from turbulence - for example if the air is flowing through a grill on the top of the case this may up the noise considerably, so it can make a huge difference removing (or dremelling out) obstructions (my shuttle had a huge grill on it and removing it did wonders for both noise and airflow). Heres a link to the one i bought: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...tem=6849417439 I thought 99p was acceptable

Thanks, that's a great help to someone who's never picked up a dremel let alone attempted to bore holes in his case:

I'm going to put a hole in the top window and one in the side so a 120mm fan can cool the pci slots

Dremels are very good at cutting metal, and with a bit of practice you can cut some very complex shapes with ease.

I've got a set of hole saws that i bought cheaply and they're absolute rubbish at metal by comparison..

Don't know if I've wasted my money, but I've got a new, rechargeable rotarty cutting tool kit of ebay for a fiver...

It's only going to be going through perspex though

Hey, dangel, just noticed you love wifey - is that 'wifey' or your wife? You know what I mean!

As for blowholes and cases, I've still not come across a better case than the CM stacker. I love the across M/B fan you get with it The HDD fans are a bit loud, but as has been said you can swap out fans for quieter models if you need. It even has an 80mm blowhole at the top. I choose the one without a window as it sits under my dsk and is not really seen, however the windowless one has a grill on the side with a bit of foam in in the shape of a 1 foot circle - certainly helps with pulling in air and the foam catches any dust etc that comes it's way.
