Looking for Anti Virus Software Recommend

My lappy has a virus which keeps turning off Windows update and buggering up my firewall settings.

I am currently using BitDefender after moving away from Norton (although I never had a problem with it)

Can anyone suggest a good antivirus software?

    Thanks for any help forthcoming

AVG seems to have significantly lower detection rates, particuarly when it comes to compressed files, than the best of the commercial AV scanners.

    I'd suggest Kaspersky or F-Secure.

I tried avast, but I didn't like that fact it took an extra 10secs to open Outlook, becuase of it's splash screen. If there was a way to turn that off I couldn't find it. So I went back to AVG.

P.S. I have not had any virus problems so far with AVG, but then again, I am usually pretty sensible about web pages viewed and e-mails opened.

Hmmm... seems NOD32 is getting a bit of praise. Is there a free trial for it? How much does it cost?
