    Unhappy Continuous beeping... eek!

I've had my pc for a while, and recently I had a "System Disk Error" problem, which turned out to be a loose connection.
However, NOW whenever i put my pc under stress by playing a game (CS:Source or FarCry for example), the pc itself (not the speakers) makes a continuous beeping noise!

It is the same tone, and each beep is about 2 seconds apart, then if i leave it for a while it freezes and restarts itself...

I'm guessing overheating of some kind..? any help/ideas would be very much appreciated! =)

sounds like the temperature alarm, have a look in the BIOS at the hardware monitor and see whats going off..

Also if possible (or if un-experienced if you trust yourself) check to see if any fans have stopped working whilst it is turned on.

Yup the constant beeping is the temp alarm. monitor the temps during a heavy gaming session. If they're too high get better cooling, if not edit the temp warning in your BIOS (usuallly under computer health staus or something similar)

You should get two temperatures, one for the system case and one for the CPU, I've a feeling you may need a new fan on your heatsink or perhaps a better heatsink.

Saying this, how many fans do you have in your case? You want at least need drawing cool air in and one the hot air out.

ooo... now it all makes sense...
i have only got one fan kicking out the hot air at the back (and psu of course)... but i've been meaning to fit a small fan at the front to draw air in for the last year! totally forgot!!! oops.

i'm surprised it's lasted this long without problems!
thanks again to the wonderful hexus members

try to make sure you have the same amount going in as you do out, then you get a nice crossflow action making the most of the air coming in, so 1x out + PSU, see if you can fit 2 inlet fans at the front

or if there both 80mm, see if it will take a 120mm inlet.

and clean the crap out while your in there if its been a year :O

I've got an Chenbro Xpider II case.
So i've got a 120mm fan at the back, and it turns out that i DO have an intake fan, but its only a 92mm one at the front.

I've cleaned out a load of dust, and i think thats helped.a bit.. but i'm still not 100% sure if my set up is ok...

might be an idea to take the heatsink off, clean up the CPU and stick some arctic silver on there

a year of a generic heat pad will have killed it & stop the heat from getting from the CPU to the heatsink.

hmm.. just seen that my graphics card (radeon x800xt) gets up to 99 degrees!!

the fan is working, so i'm assuming the heatsink must be the problem?
i'm not confident about fiddling with that, but i'm guessing that the arctic silver stuff would work for a gfx cpu as well as normal processor?

Are you sure your case fans are connected and spinning the right way?

check for dust bunnies in your heatsinks (both CPU and VGA) - you'll be amazed what crud gets caught in there in a year...

    Solved.
There was a stupid amount of dust lodged between the fan and heatsink of the gfx card.
A small paintbrush soon sorted that out... =)
    Thanks again
