    Temperature alarm? Help

I've just replaced a graphics card as my existing one seems to have died. Got a 7600GT same as this. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/The-best-7600-...QQcmdZViewItem

I just did a basic installation & changed the resolution for the desktop icons. There is info on overclocking the card but I'm not touching that yet.
Screen looking fine, few emails done, etc, looking fine.

Loaded game. (Silent Hunter 3) Game is fairly slow loader, but did as normal. Clicked to change screens & suddenly there's a piercing tone from the tower I escaped from the game & withdrew the CD & the noise stopped.

I read another thread about an intermittent tone being a temperature issue......

Is this another, or something else....?

Open up the nvidia control panel and leave the temp monitor going while you play a game. if it goes quite high. then most likely your heatsink is loose.

Ok chuckskull, no idea how that's done at the moment, but I'll check that out tomorrow.
It's pci e, - since the other card failed is it possible it's a motherboard issue?

    Thanks. GD

You'll need the latest nvidia drivers, it should be pretty simple from there. It's also possible your mobo is overvolting/clocking the PCI-e slot, unlikely but you might wanna check

Check to see that the fan is spinning on the Graphics card and the CPU fan. Check all fans are spinning.

Hi folks, downloaded nvidia drivers & used rather than Galaxy's as suggested. Both cpu & 7600's fans are working. When I took off the case's cover I think the blue light from the 7600 dimmed & the fans revs dropped........is it because there would be a slight cooling when the cover comes off?

The 7600's ambient temp' is 63 degrees. I loaded in a flight game for a few minutes & it seemed ok. Loaded the SH3 game. It takes about 3 minutes to load, nothing bright/flashy on screen & then stops awaiting a selection. I left it static on that page & about 30 secs later the tone started.
I don't know if it's possible to view the temperature monitor at the same time but I can't. Exited the game & the temperature had gone up to 92 degrees.

Since the gpu slowdown temperature is 115, 92 seems a long way off for an alarm.....??

Tried another game, GP Legends & the same 'beep' happens before starting playing.
Chuckskull mentioned probable loose heatsink. The one round the fan is bolted. Other two look like press-fit? Is it just a matter of pressing down,.........I've got some heat-conducting paste........worth using?
