    Well, that's rather odd.

Put the latest BIOS revision on a floppy, put it into the new PC, and loaded the EzFlash2 program via the BIOS. It showed two drives, A and B. It found nothing on the floppy even though I could hear it being accessed for a short while. I then tried to access 'B', and surprisingly I heard the NEC rev up, and the directories of the Windows CD were shown. It seems there's no communication problem then.

So, having not been able to update the BIOS to the newest revision, I'm unsure what to do now. I noticed that the clock seems to have gone to 00:00, and has now gone up gradually as I've been using it today.

    Any ideas?

Well, this gets even more peculiar.

I just raided the cupboards, and found a beta copy of x64 edition. Tried that, and it boots no problem. I then tried my XP CD again, and guess what....

    It works

No idea what's been going on; it just would not boot for the majority of today. Still, very glad it's working. Thanks a lot for all your help guys.

I am having extactly same issue but on p5b (vanilla) board.

I built my first computer today with following parts
    P5B
    C2D E6400
    SATA HD Seagate
    IDE DVD-RW NEC
    1GBx2 DDR2-800
    Zalman 9500 LED
    BIOS Ver.0309

When I boot, eveything seems to be fine except IDE DVD DRIVE. Jumber is set to Master and power light is on and it spins. FDD is working for sure because I can boot from FD. I am not even sure HD is also working.
Bios POSTs. However I can't get my dvd rom to get recognized. I try to boot with Windows xp bootdisk (Both Floppy and CD) but it does not find DVD ROM at all. This DVD drive works in my other desktop.
Also I changed to CDROM which is working in other desktop, but it fails.
I've checked cable connections, but they are all fine.

I've also tried with slave, cable select jumber on my dvd drive, but no success.

Do you have any idea what is going on.
