    Asus A7N8X Deluxe rev2.0 & Abit NF7-S v2.0

Well, long story short; I owned an NF7-S, and it went up the wall, I had it replaced with another NF7-S, and that broke as well, so I've RMA'd it, and mangaed to get the board changed for another of my choice.

Fair play, the place I got it from agreed, and I opted for an Asus A7N8X Deluxe.

Now, I know that this and the Abit NF7-S are two of the best AMD board out there, but what exactly are the differences between the two? What does one do better than the other?

The Asus board is a bit more expensive than the Abit, and my PC mag of choice (PC Pro) currently has the Asus on its A-List.

    Many thanks,

    Stewart.

I'm pulling this from memory...I think the two distinct advantages of the ASUS is that it has the second network card onboard, and it's also passively cooled.

...however, the Abit is an absolute winner for overclocking, even if it has a whiny fan. Since few people needed that second network card, most of these board members like a nice bit of OC and with the Abit being cheaper, that's what the favourite is. I think some of the older ASUS boards had trouble at 200FSB as well, not sure though.

Otherwise, bar layout, they have the same features (I think)

if you're looking for pure FSB overclocking the ASUS should do quite well, but the Abit will generally beat it. They're both superb boards though, and the ASUS shouldn't present too large a problem so long as you aren't looking for 230FSB upwards (hell, it might even make that if you get a good sample)

Having just looked at the hexus review, you might get better OC with the abit board, as you can play with the chipset voltage - hexus review reckons you can't do this with the ASUS, although there might be a bios update for it (*doesn't know*)

the Abit has better overclocking features than the ASUS. But the new Abit boards are supplied with cheap caps and stuff.

Even tho ASUS's support is poo, I'd go for the ASUS.

But other boards to consider are the DFI Infinity - B (called -A but is B)

Leadtek Nf2 Ultra Pro, Soltek SL-75FRN2-RL

Well, I'm not looking for 230FSB no.

I'm no extreme OCer, I just get my PC stable at 200FSB, CPU at 2.2Ghz, tighten my RAM timings and OC my 9800pro a bit. Get 6500 3D marks in 2003, and I'm happy, and ready for some gaming.

For my pupposes, the Asus is just as good as the Abit, yes?
