    Cannot join domain

Hi folks, everything was going fine and then BAM, one of the pcs couldn't log onto the domain and I get this:

Note: This information is intended for a network administrator. If you are not your network's administrator, notify the administrator that you received this information, which has been recorded in the file C:\WINDOWS\debug\dcdiag.txt.

DNS was successfully queried for the service location (SRV) resource record used to locate a domain controller for domain AYP.Local:

The query was for the SRV record for _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.AYP.Local

The following domain controllers were identified by the query:

    aypserv.ayp.local

Common causes of this error include:

    - Host (A) records that map the name of the domain controller to its IP addresses are missing or contain incorrect addresses.

    - Domain controllers registered in DNS are not connected to the network or are not running.

For information about correcting this problem, click Help.

    Any ideas? Thanks, N.

    can you ping aypserv.branch.local ?

sounds like DNS is more or less working.

has anything changed IP address recently ?

Things are kinda a bit topsy turvy here but yes, that's the domain server. As I said, the other machines are working fine... and I really haven't disturbed anything

Not necessarily relevant but why use tweakui as you have on a domain controller? I can understand on a home desktop, but...

tbh Splash I know little bits about lots of different computer topics but now a lot about one particular thing... so, I usually stick to simple stuff and learn as I go, when I tried to find out about autologin - I was pointed in the direction of tweakUI

I see - you may have missed my point - why would you need to login to your DC automatically?

Of course (duh), the PCs are used in a youth centre and they want the PCs to automatically log as youth users (avoid giving the kids login user names, passwords etc) but they also want them to access shares on their server too.

so you can't ping your domain controller by fully qualified domain name ? its pretty critical for adding machines to the domain

I know its a long shot but have you tried giving the DC a restart? If you can't do that try restarting services.

Maybe one of the services has got a little confused, DHCP, DNS?

good idea - thanks! I'm not visiting the centre until next week but that'll be first on the agenda

gutted, all of re-cabling, reinstalls, profile editing etc. went fine and then boom - something tough shows up [sob]

thanks for all of your help though guys, posting on hexus really helps me wade through my own silly useless thoughts and focus on the actual issue at hand!
