Can anyone think of anything that smells worse than cooked electronics?
Ive just had a complete knightmare. I was going do a favour for my Mum and copy a load of CD's
So I had a good idea lets stick my old CD-R drives back in my machine and burn multiple disks at once. And get some brownie points but not just doing one copy but three of each.
Anyway installed the cd's back in and didn't have enough power. So i used a splitter from a 120mm fan in the top of my case. That i had purchased propably a year ago from the forums. I always though it was quite poor as it didn't move that much air. And its an Led fan its very dim.
So I put the side back on as every good techie does. Hits the power switch the machine doesn't post nothing fans are spinning but its dead.
So i pop the side off and the smell hits me !
The power connector had been reversed so the 12v and 5v were swapped and the fan had been running at 5v.
Ive lost a WD 320gb Sata drive that was using a normal power connector. 2 x Maxtor 250gb hd's. I may of lost the motherboard as well as that had a molex connector on it.
I carn't check the matrox site for warranty as its down but I am certain they are out.
I don't want to think about how much data ive lost im on holiday next week and planned to get all my pictures etc off.
Burning the disks on my firewall. I carn't believe how slow 6x is now. When i got the drive all them years ago it seemed so fast.
