Was hoping the 4870 would be a good replacment for my 8800GT to ru my 24" screen, doesnt look like it will :/
i can't believe i fell for the hype
the game would have been on if the 4850 was beat the 9800gt, it seems it can't even beat 8 series nvidia cards :s
Here is another review.

feels pretty potent IMO... single card will trade blows with a 9800GTX.. I think that's where AMD wants this card to be.. 9800GTX region..
AMD isn't worried about the 280 at all, its silly prices for not very much faster speeds. OK.. its fast but surely not £400 fast...
If they can get 4870 to slot nicely between 9800GTX and GTX260, then AMD have a winner there...
TBH, for the resolution I'll be playing on.. 260GTX is a good choice, but if AMD can get me 85% of its speed for 60% of its price then they will get my money!
Me want Ultrabook
I'd be inclined to disregard these figures - ATI card on an Intel mobo, NVidia cards on an NVidia mobo with an NVidia chipset!
Not exactly a balanced review. Why didn't they use all the cards on the Intel board?
I dunno the scores in this review seem to be a little low. Other sites seem to be higher although they were using the Cat 8.6 drivers. I'll wait till all the major sites get their reviews out.
See System Specs.
Other reviews place the 9800GTX and HD4850 around the same in performance so something is not quite right here!
Have to agree with a few of the posts here suggesting that other reviewers have come out with some substantially more flattering numbers for this card.
If it can, as some reviews are suggesting, trade blows with the 9800GTX (which, considering the fact that nVidia has been scared into slashing the price of said card, may well be true) then for my money this looks the better card to buy.
If you ask me the red camp might just be shading it in this latest round of product releases...
http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Powercolor/HD_4850/ looks a lot better in this review, i do agree though that hexus should've tested all cards on the same setup
TechPowerUp! used Catalyst 8.6

says this is .inf

well hexus where not stopped from using the newest drivers, were they? as i understand the Catalyst 8.6 was supposed to come out together with the 4000 series, lets hope nvidia can release good drivers as they promised
This card faired alot better in the other review I read, Beating out the 9800GTX which is probably more acurate since Nvidia are dropping the price of this card by alot and bringing out a pre-overclocked version aswell.
I've seen quite a few reviews now, and I would agree that its slightly more powerful then a 9800gtx, but the big question is how much will this card cost in the uk?
In the USA its $199 which equates to £100 but we never get USA prices. My bets on about £140 (which should go down to £130 in a couple of weeks) which makes it very competitive with the 9800gtx and 8800gts 512
Well I hope the full Hexus review will use Catalyst 8.6 or later - given the (unsurprising) improvement over the sample driver - and push the card up to at least a resolution of 1920x1200.
I hope they start bringing out the more customised versions of the 4800 series much more quickly than they have with other series, that seems like one of their big weaknesses.
