Get what you pay for. You won't be able to get a decent signal most of the time if it's anything like my phone contract.
My T-mobile Pay as you Go 3G dongle is much more competitive.
It's ~£30 to buy, then £2 a day (£10 a week, £20 a month I think) and there's a 3GB monthly FUP (soft limit).
Surely such a scheme is better for light users?

or, better still the 3 mobile monthly contract one, £15 for 5gig.

I guess that would depend on how much you plan to use it. If you expect to be a very light daily user, (perhaps reading email and a few blogs on the daily train ride to work), then the Orange deal would be a better option, if not then pay the extra to get a higher bandwith cap with T-mobile.Originally Posted by Steve
Is that only Orange mobile pay monthly customers or is it open to pre-pay customers as well? If so, then it would not be much of a catch as it would be easy and cheap to get hold of an Orange SIM (usually for free), register it, and then hardly ever use it.
I have the T-Mobile deal as Steve outlined, I think its a better deal for someone who want it for high days and holidays, the orange deal might be better for someone who wants a little every day. The thing I liked about the T-Mobile deal was I could use the whole 3 GB quota in one day. Also T-Mobile do not charge for over quota which quite a few telecos do, at VERY expensive rates. I would be interested to know what the over quota rate is on this orange deal.
i have a vodafone phone contract and internet bolt-on
i'm "allowed" to tether my phone to my laptop with no additional cost, which considering i don't actually pay for the bolt-on seems pretty good to me
the vodafone PAYG mobile dongle seems quite good value. £15/gig IIRC
The best thing about the vodafone dongle is your credit never expires, so its great if you want something once or twice a year or want to use a few meg a day a few days a month. T-Mobile is better if on the days you want it you really want to use the service hard.
I've had a little chat with T-Mobile (my phone provider) and they say can bolt on Mobile Internet for £5/month on top of my contract.
According to the sales person I spoke to, I don't have to "take out a contract", and I can have it on one month, take it off another, and go back and forth.
Another thought:
- The deal above would connect through my phone.
- They also said they could offer a dongle.
- I'd ideally like an extra sim card, and have it somewhere inside my netbook.
Is there any way of doing this economically? Or do I have to buy one of those £150 x54 cards for my netbook from somewhere like eXpansys and take the sim out of the dongle??
Thoughts appreciated.
I'm in a similar situation as i just wanted a SIM only contract really.
3G do a £15 per month for 5gig, monthly contract, so no lockin, and you can remove the sim from the FREE dongle
