So a few posts ago I remind everyone that is supposed to be a civil forum, and you go and do this? Why do I even bother, clearly people don't listen!

Yes, badass, this is still going. However there is no evidence that any of the people who have spoken here are mentally unstable, just passionate about their ideas, which is hardly a crime, nor objectionable. What is objectionable is when they sprout misinformation, which is the very thing I was trying to stop.

Your summary also misses a few key points for the audience that have been discussed, such as the various merits of 3D Vision and Eyefinity, NVIDIA using vender locking tatics to prevent users form using a dedicated PhysX processor as part of graphics configuration if their primary adapater is not NVIDIA.

Recent actions and engineering blunders by NVIDIA were also covered like the short usage life of the graphics adapters like 8600GTM. AMD was also said to be attempting to undermine NVIDIA because they are in debt and need to do whatever they can to recovered Market Share.

In fact, there has been so much discussed, I think it would be well worth for people to read the last few pages, least not to prevent people repeating previous points!

You mean like a Quadro series graphics card to game on? Or those TV cards that cost like £150 because they are "hybird card" with "A/V capture" when the user only wants to watch the BBC through their HTPC (in which case a £30 USB DVB-T doogle would do the trick).. yes, I laugh at these people also.

Fortunately the seem to be rare. The only "bad purchase" I have made recently is a quad core for my HTPC, but that's all good, because the Quad Core cost me less than a Dual Core would have.

It's stuff like buying a AMD ATi 4850 when a AMD ATi 4870 is both cheaper and faster... or buying a 120Hz moniter when you never use 3D... or spending £1600 on a LCD 1080p TV when you only watch SD content.

But sometimes bad purchases like these can't be helped, it's only when people who do it who should know better that it's funny.

Yeah, the sad thing with this is, either a) nVidia employees have nothing better to do with their time than doodle comic strips, or b) nVidia marketing hired a team of comic artists because they thought this would be a neat marketing ploy.

No strawman. His whole post boiled down to "There's no need for costly Intel and NVIDIA parts, I prefer AMD parts and laugh at those who buy high end things like i7 and 30"monitors."

My whole reply boils down to:

1. It's not normal to laugh at people who buy good stuff.
2. The good stuff offers several benefits.

As noted, the 30" monitors greatly improve the gaming experience. I paid over $1000 for my i7, but the multiplier is unlocked and I prefer a multiplier OC to to memory OC- less fail points. I also prefer to do mild OCs, so when you start out with a chip rated at 3.2, you're pretty well assured you can put a 10-20% OC on it no problem.

I have more cash than I do time to reformat and reinstall if 2.66> 4GHz OC fails, buying a 3.2 unlocked chip pretty much guarantees me 2 years of trouble free performance.

My last main chip was an extreme edition Quad, and I used to run FX chips as well.

With SLi, there are situations you can get into really CPU limited scenarios if you "grab one of those tasty phenoms".

If you don't believe me, I'd be happy to post some Far Cry2 benches on my i7 at 3.2 and my Phenom II at 3.2. There will be a significant difference with one GTX295, it will be exacerbated with two.

What I don't understand here is how you make the connection between a failed overclock, that will likely burn out the CPU, affecting your Windows install? Do i7 920s have a tendency to explode in such a unique and spectacular fashion that you will lose your harddrives as they are vaporised?

Clearly, you buying the 965 is merely a cop out because you are unable to do something which many of use consider a simple, and easy to understand, process. Read my guide if you don't believe me, and then gron as you realise you could have saved about two thirds of the money you spent on your 965EE. Hell with that kinda money you could have bought another 295, wouldn't that be ace?

As for benchmarks, I would love to benchmark my 920 D0 @ 3.6GHz vs your 965EE @ 3.6GHz. I mean clearly, the 965EE will be better because it is an Exterme Edition.

You can't immerse yourself in a game if you're having to split your focus between it and the display. It would be a different thing entirely if you had a holodeck-type surround environment, but we're not quite there yet.

True. I find I have to have my moniter about 2 foot away before I my eyes actually take in the entire scene. It is rather annoying, but good, because it reduces eye-strain and what not. At work my eyes get tired because my moniter is mere foot away. At home, my montiers are 2 foot and 1.5 foot away, and I don't get the eye-strain I get at work.

Unlucky man. I love my 24" for gaming. I guess it all depends on your setup and what games you play, and how you play them. Some games don't go to well with screen realestate I can understand.
