Re: News - NVIDIA kicks off GeForce 300-series range with GeForce 310

So basicly there will be 3xx series card's that are at DX 10.1 spec and other 3xx card's which are compatable with the DX 11 spec? Sounds like confusion in the market place why cant these companies just realise that one whole range of cards should have the same basic specs but just range in speed...

Maybe if I put a GTX380 sticker on the back it would help.

Was there really a need for this? Or are they trying to drum up hype by "releasing a new generation"?
It actually looks like they are trying to compete with Intel's GMA 4500 onboard graphics. I guess they gave up against ATI.

Re: News - NVIDIA kicks off GeForce 300-series range with GeForce 310

It's pretty staggering how far nvidia have fallen. When was theie last "wow" moment anyway and why do people still care about their graphics when they are far behind ati?

The reason we still talk about the 8800 is because that was the last good thing we saw from them.

nV never really had a 'wow', just lots of spin and propoganda.

AFAIK the only time NV have been behind in the same generation for a single-GPU was the GeForceFX. All other times they've been either arguable or outright in the lead. I wouldn't say they've never had a 'wow' at all.

On the other hand they rebrand faster than any OEM I've seen. They're really harming their long-term PR image for a short-term gain. That said, every time a manufacturer releases something significantly faster, all bets are off. Intel were once super-evil until Core 2. ATI were unreliable tosh until the GeForce FX. NV were super-slow until the 295 (at which point 4870X2 sales plummeted). Maybe NV are on to something? Release something super-fast [at a reasonable-ish price] and everyone forgets anything bad you've ever done - until you're in second place again.

I'd rather NV stick around though. With no competition, prices start to sky rocket. Even AMD will happily rip you off if they can *cough* Athlon64 FX *cough*.

I thought that was the rename that never happened?

The actual new GT240 is a 96shader, 40nm DX10.1 card... (it costs about the same as a 9600GT, too)

Re: News - NVIDIA kicks off GeForce 300-series range with GeForce 310

ATi released DX10.1 with the HD3xxxx series cards , which was loooong ago and then has since been releasing DX11 cards with the HD4xxxx and HD5xxxx cards and the HD6xxxx isn't too far.
    -
Meanwhile, Nvidia just released their DX10.1 cards a few months ago and that was not for retail sale either. And they plan to release their DX11 cards almost 2 yrs. later!
    -
And let's not forget about GDDR. Only one Nvidia card has GDDR5 - the GT240. ( Correct me if I am wrong plz )

Are they trying to commit suicide?

I meant GTS240!! Doh!! The Moose got confused by all this rebranding although that isn't saying much!!

    The GTS240 exists:

I'd be worried if the Moose didn't get confused by the frequent rebranding.
