I don't see the point of having the "Images", "Maps" etc links at the top and on a side bar, that's a waste of space.
doesnt explain why they would get rid of it, it was handy to have it right there and it was hardly clutter!

In all serious though I'm really not keen, it looks far less professional than it did. Why more and more sites are adopting a large, cute and colourful theme is beyond me. Surfing the internet is becoming more akin to a waltz through Toy Town...
