Re: News - UK TouchPad fire-sale confirmed

The time of these sales takes the piss. Almost punishing those people that have jobs during the day.

Dixons at 5pm yesterday afternoon when most people either be still at work or travelling home.

Then Amazon at midnight which a lot of people including myself would already be asleep for an early start next day.

I specifically asked @argoshelpers, and it happened after a few hours, with confirmation via twitter.

I asked them. I did ask them about how we would know and they said they would inform me. I sent a DM via twitter with the relevant details as advised well over three hours ago and still nothing. I asked them a hour ago what the status was too as the reservation ends at 5.30PM. There are people who asked for an extension only an hour ago and have already got it. So bah!!

    Nice one.

In a similar vein I got a PM saying about an unexplained earthquake in Silicon Valley...
... followed by a "bulletin" saying that USGS identified the source as HP@Cupertino, cause being the entire HP board going "doh!" and slapping their foreheads.

No Touchpad for me, can't find anyone with stock@ <£300. Maybe I'll wait a month or two and then check eBay. :'(

Re: News - UK TouchPad fire-sale confirmed

The sense of entitlement in some of the comments on here is way over the top. No one has a right to one of these things. If you get one, great, if not then you should have bought one a few weeks ago / get one off ebay / whatever. It's not that far off the whiny moaning that came from the rioters a few weeks ago.

Please leave off slagging off the wage slaves who work for a slither over minimum wage for these sites - they are dealing with a ridiculous surge in demand that is not their fault. Have a think for a moment if they deserve the abuse that's being directed at some of them. Heck dabs crashed. Misco crashed. Staples crashed. etc etc.

Dixons: They got the instruction to reduce the price so did. I'm sure they are very sorry they didn't wait until 6.35 when you got home, but then again what about the person who got home at 7pm and would then have missed out?

Amazon: midnight sounds suspiciously like they set it to reduce on todays date (per the HP announcement) and it happened automatically. Some people got lucky - well done them.

Just like anything where demand is much greater than supply not everyone got a new toy - maybe stick the money in the bank for a year and buy an android tablet then, give it to you favourite publican or just be relieved you didn't get one and that instead of it gathering dust in a months time, you've still got the cash in your pocket...

Re: News - UK TouchPad fire-sale confirmed

I hear there's plenty of stock on ebay.
Wonder how many of the sellers work for Dixons, Currys, PC World, Dabs, etc, etc?

I hope they manage to maintain my reservation, the family would love a TouchPad.

On the Pre3 side I have ordered one from the HP Palm Store... got confirmation of the order 10minutes later. I really hope they slash it's price and they manage to send me one.

Hmm, not sure which thread you're reading - I'm pretty sure that no one is feeling "entitled" to get one of these bargains. Similarly any criticism is being firmly addressed towards management at these companies and especially at HP for mishandling this "event".

What you're reading as "entitlement" is, in fact, disappointment at missing out on a tech bargain. No one's going to die through not getting one, and personally (since I am one of the disappointed) I find your comparison with the scumbag riot-raiders to be odious in the extreme - it's not if anyone here's suggesting firebombing or ramraiding HP, Dabs, PC World etc. Please retain a sense of proportion! End of my rant.

Woah! Unnecessary... People are having a go at the way it's been organised (it isn't the staff that are to blame, but it's still acceptable to say they're useless directed at the people in charge). As for the time comment, you can't make everybody happy, but you can use logic to make the majority happy. It isn't a sense of entitlement, rather the sense of a missed opportunity.

It was a rant - by definition I left logic at the door as I began writing...

My comparision to the rioters was many people seem to have been caught up in the buying madness when they don't particularly want one, they are buying just because - this seems to have been the case with a number of people going through the courts now getting time inside for stealing a lucozade. A tenuous comparison, but hey, I was in full flow.

Good luck to people in their quest, if I see anyone with stock i'll let you know ...

Some argos stores have stock - check istockchecker.

I've got a reservation for the 32gb one now, 30 miles away but I can make the trip at the weekend if they make their mind up in time..Argos have promised a price review within the next 24 hours.

There were 2 more in that area too (I didn't reserve them, so they are up for grabs!) - check in the Chester area..

Just had my reply and my reservation has been extended until 1st Sept. Would be great for the household. We shall see.

Can't imagine what working that helpdesk must have been like today.
