Re: Features - QOTW: Will you be upgrading to Intel Haswell?

Yup, will be upgrading my laptop first (C2D T7300) and then desktop (C2Q Q6600 @ 3GHz) a while down the line as both machines use ddr2 and thus 4 gigs of ram is as much as they can handle with 16 gigs of ddr3 it would be rude not to get that much. Will also make the jump to ssd's in both machines as well.

I'm currently torn between getting a laptop with gt3e or discrete graphics (7970m ish) it will all depend on the price. If the laptop can handle gaming then the desktop may wait until next generation.

Outside of a few synthetic benchmark scores, you won't notice the difference.

For that kind of cash you could build a full fat cooling loop and clock the nuts off your IB chip.

Re: Features - QOTW: Will you be upgrading to Intel Haswell?

Unless they have specific needs (low power consumption, iGPU, etc), I don't think any LGA1155/1366 will upgrade to Haswell. For those still on LGA775 and would like an upgrade now, Haswell is a great jump in all aspects.

I won't though. IVB is still running great and hopefully, my CPU will last at least late 2015/early 2016

NO. Already got a Sandy Bridge Core i5, so no point.
To me, this looks like a really useful laptop CPU architecture that happens to have had a desktop release too.

Re: Features - QOTW: Will you be upgrading to Intel Haswell?

Looking at this (Haswell) in terms of a new laptop or tablet as the 4600HD graphics would be ample for my needs so yes it interests me and is the mian reason why i have not yet invested in a Windows 8 pro tablet or laptop/ultrabook.
Desktop wise am running an i7 3770 and have a Phenom X6 rig laying redundant so no need for more desktop grunt however i do have a Samsung 840 SSD hanging around and some DDR3 modules and a couple of spare cases so i could start a new build.

I dont see anything with an Atom in genuinely competing on android pricewise, but we'll see

Intel phones are quite cheap on android and there performance is adequate, I expect there future atom mobile platform to make a real impact!

Seeing as I'm still running a Q6600 an upgrade at some point soon is fairly likely, probably to a 3770k rather than a Heswall since hopefully the costs will come down

I think it'd be worthwhile if you were buying used, in which case a 2600k or 2700k will offer almost identical performance at a lower price. If buying new I would hesitate to invest in 1155, although your current chip suggests you'll be keeping it for a good long while, so it may not matter either way.

Re: Features - QOTW: Will you be upgrading to Intel Haswell?

Nope, I won't be as I have built a new IvyBridge computer around start of May. Did consider upgrading to Haswell hoping my old Dell WinXP PC would survive to around June but it died which was the reason for new urgent PC build.
