Would consider a used IB/SB processor, but I think we could be hit by a 2nd hand supply/demand issue. Not enough peole make the jump to Haswell so there won't be the expected trickledown of socket 1155 based kit. Time will tell.

Maybe when the new Xbox comes out there'll be a rush of higher end games that can justify the layout.

Not sure; my current CPU is a i5-750, so any upgrade is going to be noticeable. I'm planning a mini-ITX setup, so I was originally going to see if the IB would drop in price and go for that as I didn't think there would be any mini-ITX MB's for Haswell at launch. However, going by the article http://www.anandtech.com/show/6970/h...ostar-and-evga, it looks there'll be some availability. Also, the prices aren't that different CPU wise; would be looking at getting an i5-S version probably.

As Wasabi pointed out, second hand values may hold firm; especially with Haswell's focus seemingly being on power efficiency rather than out and out performance. Going ITX may settle the issue in favour of 1155 - considering the price of the Z87 boards, and the rising popularity of smaller form factor builds , I wouldn't be surprised to see Z87 ITX board at a ridiculous premium.

Yeah I don't see Ivy Bridge prices going anywhere, Sandy Bridge never dropped in price.

Re: Features - QOTW: Will you be upgrading to Intel Haswell?

I won't be getting Haswell.. even though my desktop(see my system) is a joke, I barely switch it on anymore and use my i5(Arrandale) based laptop now.
I think Haswell is an excellent cpu and the architecture I like, especially the efficiency side aspect, though that said, it makes me think how much better Broadwell on 16nm could be, based on this design and I may find a Broadwell 45w i7 tempting, cool and silent!
I think anyone on first generation "i" Core and higher cpus I would recommended to sit tight for Broadwell at least., I've seen BF3 run well on a Q6600 and a GTX 680.

Yeah, but the Q6600 has to be bottle-necking the GPU performance. A quad from any of the last three generations would show a marked improvement in FPS.

Yes, thats what I thought.. an odd combination really. I can't remember if he said he had overclocked it or not and he was playing a on 20 inch(i think)screen so it likely he was playing at 1680 * 1050 res.

I'm on an Athlon X3 but Haswell isn't as good as I'd hoped. I'll wait to see what Kaveri offers and then make my decision.

Same here. At this rate I'll only upgrade when something goes badly wrong.
Ditto, got a 920 C @ 3.9 with HT on. I'll wait for the Ivy-E and pocket the extra cores, speed and ram bandwidth thx

I want to yes, do I need to? Probably not.

Current rig (see sig) is nearly five years old (bar the GFX which I added when brink came out) and has served me very well and to be honest it's still perfectly capable of doing what I need.

Sticking with my i5-2500K for a while. Would look for some a new ultraportable in the coming weeks and will refine my search for the Haswell chips.
