Re: QOTW: is your PC overclocked?

Yes, pretty much all of them.

    - i7-2600K currently running at 4.5GHz (up to 5GHz is possible, but requires bumping up the voltage noticeably.. -> too much noise)
    - i5-2500K running at 4.2GHz (secondary PC)
    - Core 2 Quad Q6600 G0 2.4 at (in later stages) 3.6GHz with 1600/400MHz FSB and a DDR3 board (only found an older cpu-z validator link at 3GHz)
    - Core 2 Duo E4300 1.8 at 3GHz

I miss the Core 2 Duo/Quad days.. running my 80eur 1.8GHz E4300 at 3GHz and beyond with little effort.. and it still works to this day

Re: QOTW: is your PC overclocked?

My AMD FX 8320 goes up to 4GHz during Winter, but usually just mildly overclocked at 3.6GHz.

I have no intentions of overclocking any future processor (such as Zen) that I might get.

Re: QOTW: is your PC overclocked?

    - Present PC (laptop): No. Actually, I am underclocking the graphics card, because the fans can't be properly accessed without dismantling most of the machine (seriously), which I am not inclined to do, so it's pretty much on life-support with the help some air duster and underclocking.

    - Last desktop I built for myself. Yes. However, it was only pushed as far as I could while leaving the fan setting at the lowest setting. Nowadays I value quietness over trying to squeeze every last hz.

    - Last desktop I built for a friend (more recent than my last desktop). No.

Re: QOTW: is your PC overclocked?

Nope, didn't have the cash to nab a K chip, and I can't be arsed with base clock overclocks. Plus I'm not particularly limited by frequency anyway, so it's extra pointless.

    no.
driving a lambo at 30mph is a lot easier than trying to do 200mph in a polo.

Re: QOTW: is your PC overclocked?

I never overclocked much, and stopped overclocking about 15 years ago. I did have a Celeron 300A because it overclocked easily to 450MHz just by changing the bus speed, and then the Pentium III 700 for the same reason, but I learned that when a CPU is new I don't really feel the speed difference for normal work and when it becomes too slow to use the extra speed doesn't really help, so I dropped the practice.

Ha! Though overclocking isn't just about trying to drive fast, for some people it's a process of validating how to get there using as little fuel (power) and as few problems (stability) as possible, given the equipment available. I like having my systems solidly stable, as if anything goes wrong I don't want to have to rule out a hardware glitch over a software bug I'd be trying to diagnose.

Re: QOTW: is your PC overclocked?

Nah, I have a 1230v3 so there's on base clock changes available and even those are a bit touch and go, and since I only game at 1080p the GTX770 I have is more than sufficient at stock clocks. If anything, I'm more tempted to underclock it a touch to keep things nice and quiet.

Yup, but only the gaming rig. (5960X @ 4.2). All others (Plex server, folding rig, HTPC) are at stock for stability and temp, despite all being water cooled

Re: QOTW: is your PC overclocked?

Yes, my GPU is overclocked and I tried to overclock my CPU either but I get ramdom blue screens even with only a 10Mhz increase so yeah, bad luck. But it serves me so I'm not complaining, now my GPU in the other hand could win a replacement soon.

Re: QOTW: is your PC overclocked?

Yes, but only at stock voltages.
I've messed about with OC'ing since the Pentium days, but these days the only place I can feel the difference is on video encoding.
