Not any more. PC is a workhorse and cannot ever be unstable.
In my youth I overclocked everything. Even my Dragon-32 had the 6809 running at 1.8MHz rather than the usual 0.9

Yes up to 4.4ghz
My GTX1070 is factory overclocked (zotac amp extreme) and I have pushed it slighty further through MSI afterburner (only small, added 100mhz to core and 200mhz to memory as I think that's nearing the stable limit with it already being overclocked out the box, not to mention its micron memory so I'm lucky that I can even overclock at all!)
My CPU is another story - I have an AMD FX8350 (groan)- I bought a hyper 212 evo to try and get a small overclock out of it (perhaps 4.6ghz max) and get rid of the noisy jet engine that is the stock wraith cooler - however on stock speeds the temps are already hitting 60 degrees on bf1 and I have a really poor old asus motherboard that I don't want to fry, so I have bottled it and stayed at stock!
i7 6700K @ 4.4GHZ, the highest my CPU will clock at default voltage. Not risking anything with higher voltage.
I'm using a custom watercooling solution, Idle @ 29-31C, While Gaming Civ6 @ 50C, Highest I ever seen @ 64-68C
i7 2700k here, overclocked to 4.4gHz cooled by a Be Quiet! Dark Rock Advanced CPU Cooler all mounted up on an Asus Z77 sabertooth mothrboard.
It's been running stable at that clock speed since I built it back in 2012.
I might consider a new build next year with the new Kaby Lake 7700k I think the RAM is bottle-necking my current system
Always overclock my personal computer, i7 5820K, six cores running at 4.5Ghz when it needs to, currently dead silent (the monitors make more noise) at 1.2Ghz but it's not even loud when running 6 cores at 100% as it's water cooled :-)
With my rig I can play everything 1080p and also 1440p. Overclocked processor (to 4.5 Ghz) brings me only +200 points in Firestrike. But overclocked graphic card brings me +1000 points and more. For Fallout 4 (1440p) I only have light graphic card overclocked, just for fun. It runs at average around 57Hz and there is no noticable change in gameplay.
However I've played GTA at 1080p.
With processor overclocked to 4.5 after one year I experienced some minor trouble here and there at booting, wich are totaly unneccesarly, because everything works fine on 3.9 Ghz.
i5 6600k
gtx 970
watercooled
Until I got one or two GTX 1080 or 1070 there is no need to OC my processor.
I seem to be the most unlucky person on the planet regarding overclocking, giveaways and lottery.
Before i upgraded many steps from the good old q6600 up to my latest one the 6700k all failed overclock
In fact the only good overclocker i ever had was that good old Q6600 2.4 Ghz which ran at a incredible 3.6 Ghz.
Bought 6700k recently which did not even ran over 3.8 ghz the shop where i bought it said the cpu is fine then finally got it replaced via Intel which instant replaced it.
The new does not go beyond the 4.4 Ghz so only 200 mhz higher but thats not all it needs 1.46 volt to run at that speed. Others can get these cpu's up to 4.7 some even undervolted.
But thats not the only thing every freaking gpu i have bought in the last 6 years hardly passes the factory speeds they are sold for.
Bought a XFX RX480 which is supposed to be one of the best overclockers which some people on air get insane speeds like jayztwocents and guess what mine did not even allow 30 mhz more yes it crashed constant. I instant stopped after even on stock the card started acting weird and asked for a refund.
Now i bought a replacement a gainward gtx 1070 phoenix gs and yes you guessed it after 100 mhz higher clocks it starts to give artifacts......
I have been trying to overclock everything i bought but no luck ever since that super q6600.
Ofcourse i am not a superoverclocker and dare not go beyond the rules which apply for those products simply because i do not want to destroy them... not rich enough to replace it anyway in a year
But those reviewers seems to allways be the lucky ones and getting them for free helps as well.
It also costs you months to get parts replaced even if you get a crappy one for instance to replace the i7 6700k that costed me 3 months and about the amount it had costed me to buy the darn thing on postage and so called research costs these freaking shops charge you. I kinda am pretty sure they don't do anything other than write a email back that they tested it after the 2 weeks they supposed to be testing..... the previous order was actually the same with the previous cpu's and gpu's it costs weeks or months to replace and the constant battle to get the shop what they supposed todo.
Sadly the good shops seems to all have disappeared because giving support is ofcourse not giving the company more profit.
My FX6300 is sitting at a nice 4.3ghz all the time. Tempted to get a better cooler and push it more but my crappy Mobo might let me down.
I used to overlock everything I owned, started with the old athlon 2500+ where you bumped the FSB to 400 and got 3200+ speeds. I just haven't felt the need on the 4690k,I also run a DIY water loop but its gone from cooling to more for a quiet rig.
It has kept my trusty old 2500k (@4.2GHz) competitive for gaming until now! Battlefield 1 and Total War games excepted.
Fx 4300 sitting at a nice stable 4.3ghz
