One code, single use, just like a Steam code... except tied to all your forms of ID, so everyone with database access will know every adult site you visit, the data of which will be made available to your employer for the purposes of screening out deviants... and so that Google can force-feed you tailored content, I'm sure.

"just like a Steam code", ie once you have used it to verify yourself, nobody else can use the same code.

    Clearly the parents fall into one of three categories;

    A - They don't give a fudge.
B - They're technologically illiterate and unable to work out simple things like filters and passwords to stop their children changing them back.
C - It's easier to let them learn this way, instead of having to explain "the birds and the bees" (terrible analogy btw fore-bearers..)

If they can't manage to ring up their ISP (which in most cases is one of the larger companies if they're tech illiterate) and ask them to put parental filtering on their line then maybe they shouldn't be using the internet themselves...

I think its a good idea to protect "minors" but a solution like this I cant see working. Besides the obvious privacy concerns , and that kids aren't stupid , A web based proxy would most likely be enough to bypass these blocks if they were subject to the UK only. I also wonder if shop's would be required to sell them even if for example they disagree with pornography (Would only really affect small corner shops).

This is probably more acceptable to retailers than having magazines on the shelf, even when they put them in covers. In my experience kids will buy, use, do whatever they damn want.
The passport thingy may also have like a 1 time or 10 time use, so trading the codes etc would have limited value. But an easy access passport that may even have a QR code in it may enable users to access "quickly" etc etc

Wtf ? We can no longer watch porn online without paying ?
What about the free sites ? Will we have to pay the govt to access these free sites ?

Please rename it to Porn Tax.
This is nothing but the government trying to tap into porn profits.

"Experts? Pfft, who wants to listen to their knowledgeable and well-reasoned arguments on why this (and many of our attempts at meddling with technology) is a bad way to go about things? It honestly wouldn't surprise me if this newsagent idea was someone in government's idea of a way to help keep shops running.

    Honestly.

You have to wonder in the 'design' phase of the project who actually authorises or sanctions this thinking "Splendid idea, that'll go down a storm in the implementation phase".

Sad to see net neutrality taking hits like list as it has over the past few years

Re: UK newsagents to sell £10 passes for adult site access

A rambling clusterfudge of a policy, probably thought up as a cheap manifesto plan to appease all those 'somebody DOOOOO something' parents who actually should be responsible for what their kids get up to. Implemented by a former Home Sec who, I get the impression, doesn't know one end of a mouse from another...

That would imply there was a plan to start with.
