I dont get this whole everyone having a problem with people making a lot of money from idiots that pay over the odds.
Whether it be fore PS3's or for Live8 tickets TBH
As the old saying goes, a fool and his money are soon parted and all these sellers are doing is ensuring they get the fools money rather than someone else equally as undeserving.
Its not like they are making PS3's any more expensive for those that have a bit of patience and wait for their orders to come through.

In fact since many people are so outraged about people taking advantage of the ridiculously impatient, how about we have a campaign aginst people that pre order Ferraris and sell them at a £50K profit.
And before anyone says "but the buyers can afford it" so can some idiot paying £1500 for a PS3. If they cant, they shouldn't be bidding that much.

Forget that this is over the PS3... try this one out...

I've just had it away with the last of something you actually wanted, I have no interest in it but I've stopped you from getting it, now I'm saying you can have it but at a vastly increased price... doesn't that annoy you?

To be honest I have no problem with people selling PS3's on ebay - inflated price or not. It's not illegal to sell a PS3 at auction AFAIK and if someone really wants to pay silly money for it - then let them. It's their choice - period. Very good point with the car analogy badass - it's exactly the same thing.

If I were a millionaire and fancied a PS3 then paying 3 times the price (for example) on ebay wouldn't bother me one iota - and why should a bunch of moralising nannyists stop me from doing what I want?

True, but that's not the point. eBay aren't stopping you selling a PS3, they're stopping you selling loads... or selling a pre-order you don't have or haven't got a confirmed 30 day delivery time on.

But the real issue is profiteers stopping gamers getting a console, as per my example above.

The same thing applies to tickets for concerts etc when touts buy them up and then charge upto 200% of the original charge to people wanting them.

Ebay doesn't stop this, so why is doing this with a console any diffferent?

Is it because Sony probably whinged in their shell-like?

I thought ebay DID do something about concert tickets?

As for the PS3 i can see both sides, if it was something i wanted and i couldnt because someone had bought several to sell on auction at a ridicoulous price id be pissed, on the other hand if i was the person that bought several to sell on ebay, my ps3 would be free from the profit i made, lol

See i have no problems people buying/selling for stupid money... the problem I have is people buying 5+ PS3's when people are struggling to buy one. Its the same as ticket touting... Gigs sell out in 20min because people buy as many tickets they can get their hands on.

Sorry, what issue? This happens all the time - it's neither illegal nor contrary to the captalist society we live in. Nobody's forcing you to pay though the nose to be 'first' - you could (shock! horror!) wait for mass availability or even a price drop. This seems rather obvious to me..

i agree with the fools and their money are soon parted argument, but thats not the issue. The issue comes from the people who buy the console purely to sell it on and have no intention of playing it. If a rich person and a working class person wanted a PS3 on release day, why should the working class person have to wait because someones bought one to make profit from the rich people, its not exactly fair. The first consoles should only go to people who actually want one. Saying that, the majority of the people who sell them for massive profits are the working class anyway so my argument falls down

but by that same argument, its not fair that i can only buy a 10 year old mercedes, and not a brand new one, because i don't earn enough to buy a brand new one.

how is it fair that if you've got no job, and thus are able to stand in line for a WEEK to wait for a console, you should be able to get one ahead of me, who works 9-5? if that person is able to invest a week of his time in addition to the cost of the ps3, why shouldn't i invest a week of my earnings, plus the cost into getting one? the combined amount would probably be enough to get one on ebay..

no-one is stopping gamers from getting the system. they're just stopping gamers who are slow off the mark AND too poor to buy one on release day. if you buy one 2 months later, you'll get just as much play time from it.. its not as if you'll enjoy it less because its may instead of march..

That's exactly how I look at it too - some people say it's how capitalism works, I say they're just being greedy *&^$ers with no sense of what is morally right.

With the "Screw everyone, I'll do anything for a quick profit" attitude, it's no wonder the planet is going to hell in a handbasket..

OK, this is what i think, if you buy 1 console and then sell that on its MAYBE acceptable, i mean what if something happens in your personal life and you need the money more than the console, as long as its only one, because at the end of the day you are missing out on the ps3 in order to make a profit, but its ppl that buy more just to sell, that are the problem

That's not the point at all, the point is, the greedy sods who are buying up as many as 100 units at a time purely to punt on eBay who have no interest in gaming in the slightest.

I hope karma will bite them on the ass, big time.
