Morally right? It's a Console! I agree the attitude is wrong, but I don't think it's something to take the moral high-ground on.

I totally agree on concert tickets where there are a limited amount, but in this case there's going to be more. It is how capitalism works unfortunately, which is why it (free market, privitisation) doesn't make for a better society - it isn't 'fair'.

It's _just_ a console and they'll be plenty more available - at normal price - in the coming months. No need to throw toys out of pram, just be patient

It would have saved everyone on Hexus a load of time effort if we'd all just taken the Xbox360 ebay thread from last year and edited "Xbox 360" to read "Playstation 3"

lol, having said that i might get that saints road or whatever its called, its just i dont like using controllers for shooters, much prefer a mouse and keyboard, which kind of limits the games to play, i have it hooked up to my projector at the moment, which is always good for dead or alive 4, lol

okthat was off topic, back on topic lets just kill em all... whoever they are...

I've just had it away with the last of something you actually wanted, I have no interest in it but I've stopped you from getting it, now I'm saying you can have it but at a vastly increased price... doesn't that annoy you?
Like when I was looking to buy a car for a complete knockdown price, had arranged the viewing, made the money transfer arrangeemnts should I be happy the car was fine (though, being a club car and knowing the owner I knew it would) and was gonig to pick it up/pay in fill in about 3 days time.
Then someone stepped in, handed the cash and dissapeared off with it.
Does in make any difference to me whether that person goes off the break it for parts for a sizable profit?
    No.
Would it annoy me? Yes it did a bit, but that doesn't mean that I think it souldn't be allowed.
Simply wanting something doesn't give you a right to have it under your terms, and THAT is why this country is going down the pan.
People all want to go to concerts, but they only want to pay so much for it. Well tough luck. In life sometimes you dont get what you want under your own terms.
All these people have done is identify a supply/demand imbalance and as a result are making money out of those that are so bloody impatient they will pay £1000 over the odds just to get a games console a couple of months earlier.

We watched one go for £2200 yesterday. Silly money, but if people are going to pay that amount then they have got to be mad/desperate!

Good to see ebay take some action to protect users!

EDIT: LOL NO WAY LOOK AT THIS LINK!!

EDIT: ebay item was re-listed due to $10k + bid

So lets say you have a business, and you notice that one of your suppliers is getting rid of a load of their inventory at a third of the normal price, but there is a limited number of units available. You can buy their entire inventory and you know you will sell the lot in a week. If the supplier cant get rid, they will make the offer to the general public who will certainly snap it up.
Would it be immoral to buy up the lot and sell it at what the punters are willing to pay?

Actually following that logic, I guess Scan are immoral &*#@ aswell since they see products and what people are willing to pay, find them cheaper and sell them for what people are willing to pay.

Scan do that. Just not with PS3's or using ebay. They use their website.

Well, look at what happened in Japan. Rich folk were hiring poor Chinese people to go and stand in line. Both sides benefited - the homeless guy got some cash for standing around doing nothing, the rich guy got his console. See how capitalism helps the poor?

Nick made a reasonable point asking how this situation was different from ticket touts (who are truly scum). The thing is, a PS3 scalper is really just making you wait another couple of months for your box, rather than preventing you from ever getting it. Thus I think this situation does differ in an important aspect.
