I think it's also important to bear in mind what kind of FPS you are playing, if you are firing small projectiles and need to be accurate then a kb+mouse is always going to have the advantage, but if you have a larger projectile and don't need the added accuracy, and it's a game where you need to have various buttons at your fingertips then the pad would prevail, imo.

I want to see how shadowrun fairs though, with that being crossplatform we shall see how the mighty kb+mouse fairs against the pad, I'm sure I read a article where they were matching them up and the pad was coming out on top!

There was the same thing on the original Xbox, worked brilliant with Halo 2 and I will be getting one of these for my 360 when they are out. I hate using the gamepad for FPS games.

how can you have more buttons at your fingertips when using a pad over a keyboard

In an FPS where accuray is needed and there is no autoaim feature like there is in so many console FPS's, mouse and KB would win hands down all day long.

Oh and about the Controllers getting owned by Kboard and mouse people... anyone rememeber the fun of Quake 3 on the Dreamcast? You could get into the same servers on the PC and own all the console people

and they REALLY did get owned (which ws annoying becuase i was on the DC side most of the time)

We already have this stuff for the original Xbox, the SmartJoy FRAG, it allows you to connect up a keyboard and mouse to play things like Halo 2. In fact, some of the top people on the leaderboard use the keyboard and mouse, but thats where the ranking system comes into play, you only play people of similar skill level.

And no, this wouldn't mean some 13 year old noob could plug it in and defeat a pro while spamming "L0L5 n00b 1 0wnz0r3d j00". A pro will beat a noob even if hes using a sardine to control the game, and theres not text chat support (while playing at least) on consoles, so there won't be this problem either.

I have to ask the question though, whats the point in the PS2 controller port? I mean, why would you want to use the POS PS2 controller when you can use the far superior 360 controller?

The 360 is also already compatable with most USB mice and keyboards, but so far it only works on text entry, it's up to individual developers to enable game support. If bungie decided to add in game support then anyone could use a mouse and keyboard if they wanted.

You also don't need to have a desk to use a mouse and keyboard, they can quite easily be used on a sofa.

Just had a quick read through, will read properly tomorrow, but it sounds like the mouse is still best and the only reason that the people with the pads were doing half decent is because the game is made easier for them? And purposely made harder for people using kb/mouse. IE no autoaim etc etc

Sure the pad can be better if the games made that way, that's not really what we were talking about though. Stick 2 people next to each other 1 with a pad, 1 with kb/m and there will only ever be 1 outcome.

So, in the end the mouse is better at aiming and the controller is better at gaming
That's pretty much what they concluded from the tests.

Having to remember all those combinations of keys and silly menus? I don't like the mouse and keyboard anymore and I definitely agree with the others, keep everyone on a level playing field.

I would've thought so, but I'm not exactly sure how the controls for the 360 version work.

Re: Xbox 360 users could use keyboard & mouse on Halo 3

I own one of these adapters, and simply you have don't extra buttons, we have the same amount as anyone with a controller A,X,start...etc.

you have to set what keys to match the ones on the controller.
So all other keys do not work but the ones you assign to their corresponding xbox360 controller buttons.

So you can't type words, with the keyboard.

if we suck with it you won't complain but if we do good its a problem.

people use game controllers on PC all the time. no?

Imo i think it comes down to preference.
but i can see obviously many don't agree.

I went to a MLG Tekken tournament where some used the large arcade style game pads and some used their regular playstation controllers.
    But eh thats just me.
you like blue and i like green.
    we can't get along.

halo3 has that assisted aiming, combine that with a keyboard and mouse and it could be a lethal combination, the keyboard and mouse gives the player more precision in most games.

Supose it depends on preference as well
