I'm working on a removable watercooling block for laptops and it would be great to do it with a 6800 Go !!!

    Hi,

you can be assured that if you had the same issue with MV within 7 days of purchase, we would call that a DOA and organise for a new notebook to be dispatched to you. The courier would take away the faulty model and you'd be left with a brand new one.

We have sold quite a lot of these now and I haven't heard of any over heating problems. Our support is UK based and highly trained; we won't make you jump through hoops if something so severe as is described above is happening!

    Kind regards,
    Alasdair

Whats yuor policy reguarding 7 day cool off period? as theres nothing worse
then spending that much to find somthing you missed or wasnt in the reviews.

    - We will always ship machines as they were reviewed or better and in the unlikely event we miss something, we will send a new machine over and pick the old one up. you do of course also get the cooling off period as set out in law during which time you can return the notebook for a refund. We're sure you'll like it though!

Are there any bench marks showing how the ixius performs under differing
configurations? i have seen reviews on the 3.6 version but how does the 3.2
version stack up ( can i look at a destop and see the performance change and
have it linearly matched on the DTR? Dual channel or single channel
performance / raided non raided performance etc.

    - Unfortunately we don't have that data available but if you are using it for games and other processor intensive tasks I would recommend the 3.6GHz version. On the hard drives, the 60GB is a 7200rpm spin speed so will be noticably faster than the 5400rpm drives.

How modular is the ixius? will i be able to upgrade the GFX / cpu / etc? If
so whats the motherboard limit on the CPU? can i look at the DT 915's and
see basically or identically what is used in the ixius?

    - The motherboard should support a 3.8GHz P4 if intel release one but we cannot guarantee it will go any further. The limitation is the heat sink which has to be lightweight and small on a notebook compared to what you could fit in a desktop. Graphics are upgradable but it's a design of module that is specific to this model. We hope to be able to offer an upgrade within a year.

If Nvidia go SLI are there two PCI slots available on the 915 ixius platform

    - no, you will only be able to fit one graphics adaptor in this chassis due to space restrictions

Will you offer any kind of discount on future upgrades to people who buy
    from you?

    - our upgrade service is exclusive to MV customers

Is there any concideration / data sheets covering the cooling system and is
there a reason to and the abillity to change the fans to more powerful ones.

    - such modificaiton wouldn't be supported under warranty and isn't something we'd recommend

I use a PC that is prommied ie cpu runs below 0 celcius, how about an easy
inclusion of some form of docking station abillity to a prommy for extreme
performance just an idea, if i had the money would have a go myself on that

    - I'll bear it in mind but notebooks are designed to be light weight and as small as possible so this doesn't leave much space for mods unfortunately.

Do you or will you offer image recovery disks like alienware, although not
to hard to do myself it is a great feature that should really be with every
    pc sold.

    - We offer full Windows install disc at present

Have you guys done any over clocking on yuor systems, and what were the
results? ( probably good if you dont cause you might o/c it and then charge
    more

    - The VGA core is clocked at 275MHz by default but i've had one run stable at 325MHz.

What are the Db noise levels on various levels of performance.

    - I'm afraid we don't have any data on this

is there the option of not having the card reader as it will be completely
    superflious to my needs.

    - this is integrated into the chassis

Do you offer things such as different colours / carry cases ?

    - a carry case is included as standard and we don't offer colour customisation. We investigated this but the tolerances on the parts are so narrow that a layer of paint makes it very difficult to reassemble without sanding the plastics down first!

Will my girlfriend kill me or fall in love with me more when she finds out
how much i spent on it ( looking at £2000 )

    - she will kill you and we will take no responsibility

Also any chances of getting a 3.4EE in there?

    - unfortunately that one isn't supported by the motherboard

Also what bios does it use, does the chip and bios allow for multiplier and
voltage changes??? Can you fit a bios saviour, or is it accessable enough
    for me to do so?

    - notebook BIOS chips are limited again by space restrictions. the motherboard isn't accessable in the way a PC one is.

The X800 part is compatible with the notebook chassis you would recieve from us at MV but we have no plans at present to offer an ATI solution with this notebook.

Unfortunately, we can't sell you just the case on its own. However, i can confirm that the heatsink for the CPU is a copper block with 4 heat pipes connecting it with a heat sink arrangement through which two fans draw air for cooling. The GPU has a very slimline heatsink and I'm not sure you'd fit a water cooled bock into the space without having to stand the notebook on something or take pipes down through the desk!

my PC is beeping at me, I think it is too near the radiator in my new house, time to shut down and down clock it a little

OT I know but barton 3000+ sucks for overclocking. I 'upgraded' from a 2500+ and put that into my parents PC. I should have just bought them another 2500+, that worked better at 3000+ than this 3000+ does

    Hi Alasdair,

this is not a real problem to fit a waterblock, even if the heatsink is dine, as the most important is the machining of the part itself.
A very thin heatsink with water pipes inside is nothing else than two milled plates screwed together. If the height is very thin, the milled water circuits will be larger to alow good water flow. Then the materials used to make the heatsink with integrated water pipes has to have a very good heat absorbtion capabilities.
You will notice that in most of the cases, a single thermal pad is used between the GPU / CPU Core and the heatsink itself, and things go worse with time as the pad wil be melting and become very useless. Than the core overheats, the pad does not transfer heat to the heasink so heatsink will become useless too, the fan will turn loudly all the time but will not be able to cool the cpu / gpu core as the pad does not make it's work anymore.
I thank you anyway for your answer, if there is no way to get an empty case, do you think that it could be possible to get at least the heatsinks for CPU and GPU, even some that are out of order ?
Or could you eventually send me a front and side picture of a heatsink of each?
If you can not i will understand of course, and will wait to be able to buy one MV Ixius to develop hte dual cooling heatsinks. It works fine already in an old Toshiba Satellite 3000 for the CPU, no problems so far and the heatsink is quite small, (two times smaller than an alienware 766 cpu heatsink).
I Thank you very much and sorry for all my questions....
    best regards,
    Fabien

Fabien, if you work for this extra terrestrial clothing manufacturer that you keep on mentioning, why don't you use one of their chassis for your development?

lol ! , alisdair do you know of any similar motherboards that your chassis supplier will be releaseing ? e.g. amd athlon , a much faster and cooler cpu so alot easier to integrate into small chassis ....

also i have sent 2 emails i think now with no answer but can we get discount for a system without software installed , i prefer to have it my own way i would also be willing to give up tech support rights for this although i would still expect a guaruntee on the hardware

There may be an AMD version of the chassis on the way, we would certainly like to offer one! FX-55 in a notebook would rock if you ask me

Our sales office had terrible email trouble last week; we migrated between servers and our hosting company didn't quite dot all the i's and cross the t's. Sorry about the lack of response to your mails.

Unfortunately we can't sell without software. We have to ship with OS installed and the other bits don't really cost us much anyway. The guarantee is also a basic thing that we can't sell without.

If you had any further questions, please mail us again, PM me or post here!

    Kind regards,
    Alasdair

well i suppose in the future you can offer an fx 55 solution then i would need alot less tempting by discounts and doing away with things i dont need
has your chassis supplier given any indication of testing involveing the amd side with a chassis similiar?

i had there website but cant be bothered trying to search through it

    Hi Alasdair,

i will wait to buy a MV ixius by myself to make the modification and if anybody is interrested i'll send the laptop for reviewing to any interrested and serious testing team after owning a patent for europe and if everything is positive i'll give the modification Walktrhough for free and supply the modified parts at cost for people with laptops ONLY out of warranty with overheating problems, if of course it does not cause any problems to MV. The cost for the two dual cooling copper plates / water block + fans + pipes and water system should be less than 200 Euro.
I will try to get some contacts at thermaltake or any company specialized in watercooling solutions.
I will do this in June as i do not have enough money to buy a new laptop now and i will post picture + full benchmark in the forum with your authorisation.
By the way, if anybody here has a completely dead laptop completely crashed physically (i do not hope this for anybody), i am interrested in buying the lapop in the state it is.
    Thanks for your replies,

    Fabien

    Fabien,

I'll keep you in mind should we have something suitable to sell to you in the future. Unfortunately, there just haven't been any faulty units returned yet! (which is good for MV and customers, bad for Fabien )

    Unhappy Sound quality

    Hi people

I've now had my laptop for about 2 months and have recently had enough time to care about sound quality (been snowed under until now, sort of).

Playing music using the built-in speakers is okay, I assumed it would be crap/okay, since they're laptop speakers.

The actual speakers seem quite good, but the soundcard is horrible.

When plugging a pair of headphones (tried different ones) into the laptop I hear a buzzing noise.

Yes, I've tried to mute cd-player, line in etc, no difference.

And the sound quality when playing music is just sheit.
Have re-installed the drivers, no difference. At the moment I'm using my MP3-player to listen to music instead of using the laptop.

Are other people experiencing this or did I get a crappy one?

After spending almost £2k I expected a laptop with a DECENT soundcard at least.

Besides that it runs very well, although it gets very very hot (helps keep the central heating bill down! ).

Recently I've also noticed that when using the laptop for long periods of time, or leaving it on while going out, it's very very slow when I come back.

Photoshop uses 100% of the CPU for a LONG time when resizing a 640x480 image, even uses 100% of the CPU when firing up the actual dialog box asking for the new size, and this firing up of the dialog box takes about 2-3 seconds.

A reboot fixes this, but it's a bit annoying. Feels almost like when it runs on battery.

Am I alone in having these problems?

And yes, I have emailed the tech support regarding the sound problem, but they just replied with the standard "mute different parts", replied to that but haven't had a reply from them (sent 4 days ago).

    / d

ps. anyone got the volume control buttons (on the front) working IN windows?

    Hi lunarmys,

all I can say is Im glad thats all that is wrong with your MV.

Now I maybe VERY unlucky but I have not got off to the best start with MV, after small delays with getting the laptop I was so happy I went home and picked up the laptop and then when back to work, got it all setup and killed the power save options ran some 3d marks to show it off to the rest of my IT dept and then it happen.

Screen when blank as if it when into sleep mode, restarted - nothing, ran though all the other things and still a blank, 2 HOURS after use (works out about 18 pounds a minute)

contacted Mobile support and got ok replace or repair, Im sorry but when I pay over 2k for a laptop and it is DOA I dont want it repaired, so replace - begining to middle of MARCH for that....

ok I half accepted this and then later after looking around the net and some mag's I wanted to return the laptop and get my cash back so I could go to a different company and I have heared NOTHING back from MV or mobile support about this.. so at the moment I have over 2k paperweight/clock.

after checking out the laptop when I got home it looks as if none of the 4 fans at he bottom start up when turning it up, the DVD drive moves a good 3mm in all areas.

    Regards.
