    low carb evening meals

As you may or may not know , I'm on a bit of a health kick at the moment. Trying to shift quite a few stone and get fit for this paintball lark.

I'm more or less happy with my diet at the moment ( essentially low ish calorie stuff ) , but my trainer at the gym has advised me to cut down on carbs in the evening , which is when I tend to have my main-ish meal. Trying to eat early as well , so that I've got plenty of time to metabolise stuff.

So I'm a little stuck for what to cook in the evening , and to keep it relatively interesting.I'm not too bad a cook, so I dont mind adventurous stuff rather than salad every night

I'm not trying to cut out carbs completely - will make sure I have something with bread / rice / pasta at lunchtimes ( just a nice small portion though )

It's coming up to Christmas Moby, you should be eating pies - big pies with different fillings - and lots of them. That's why you have new years resolution thing.

    Re: low carb evening meals

True, in training, no carbs after 6:30 /7:00pm

I like a nice tasty chinese style soup, plenty of veg, oyster &/or sh!take mushrooms (buy in bulk dried) & maybe some prawns/chicken/pork in there to keep hunger at bay.

Some grilled steak/chicken/venison with roast vegetables.

My fave, baked turkey leg. So cheap, so tasty. Wrap in foil with herbs/tandori masala/wine/whatever & bake for an hour. Have with steamed veg.

Fish Curry, always a winer, cook without ghee, use extra virgin rapeseed oil.

    Re: low carb evening meals

I think that you should go running everyday too, and eat a small protein based meal in the evening. And leave 2 hours before sleeping.

Its worth eating something small every 3 hours - I'm not saying eat more food just eat the same amount spread out over more meals. It is very good for your metabolism (and hence fat burning).

Make sure you get enough carbs (and fruit) in the morning and at lunch - too little carbs is worse than too much in the long run.

Green tea is meant to be good for fat loss/metabolism too

I'm staying away from the treadmill atm - damaged my back last year so keeping it low impact.

trying to move to 4 'meals' a day as well

In terms of veg I guess its pretty much open season , just avoid the spuds ?

    Re: low carb evening meals

Good to hear it. I'm on a health regime now too (thirteen weeks of gym, three times a week) only today benched 60kg having started with the meagre bar at 20!!

It kind of depends on what type of gym work you're doing. If you're a fish eater that's great; otherwise chicken and turkey are good too. Quick and easy meal would be something like a seared steak on a bed of salad with pine nuts and a home made dressing. If you're feeling really extravagant have some whole-meal bread with that. If you want to spice it up a bit make you're own dressing but just don't buy one!

Suggest you grab a copy of Men's Health, it's packed with recipes and food suggestions over this festive period. tbh all the issues are fairly similar so don't worry about getting it continually.

Green tea is. Essentially it's an antioxidant (basically stops furring up in your arteries) like most things with the word berry after it and wine - the best reputed to be pomegranate juice.

    Re: low carb evening meals

well thats good as thats what I had last night

I'm not a fussy eater, so will try and vary stuff with fish / turkey etc.

Interesting you mentioned the green tea thing - its something I've had mentioned to me

I also have cider vinegar + Oj every morning , which cuts down on the snacking instinct a lot.

Also if you feel like splashing out, white tea is better than green tea but more expensive...

Fenugreek & Tribilus will boost your natural testosterone levels, but avoid the expensive named brands. Some of the budget sites like homeherbs or helthspan are sometimes cheaper.

Mens Health is also a good training aid, good tips & recipes.

Green tea tastes awful can't stomach the stuff.

I have bought it a couple of times and there is much better info available online for free. Don't bother with magazines. if you would like me to recommend websites to you for something specific, let me know.

True, for basic training no need to shell out loads on the expensive stuff. Tribulus stacked with ZMA will work wonders.

My personal advice is eat 3 light meals a day - fill the rest of the day with fruit if you please - some light exercise such as jogging and drink plenty of water.

Sida Cordifolia can also help in blasting excess weight away, as it increased the thembolic state of the body, although its more for people wanting to cut after a bulk at the gym, one drawback is that some are not IOC approved Although similar things are

Yup agree to quite a large extent but the magazines have some helpful pointers if you haven't got a trainer however as I said after buying one that's all you need really. But the MH's site is great aswell as a load of independents - just make sure if you're getting advice on your routine it's properly supported.

On the diet side of things just make sure you watch it on the protein intake, if you're taking supplements as well, excess protein does not always just get flushed through and can result in nasties such as kidney stones.
