I'm a Man of Kent so am partial to all the Shepard Neame beers, especially the seasonal ones - it's Late Red at the moment and is fantastic.

I'm surprised noone's mentioned Harvey's Best or Tim Taylor's Landlord, as these are often on the guest pumps in and around the big smoke, they are fantastic pints, absolutely gorgeous. If you've not tried them I suggest you give them a go next time you see them

Someone mentioned Wytchwood (sic?) earlier, their honeyed ale "Bewytched" is very fine, far better than the Fuller's honeyed ale they're pushing at the moment.

I went down to Devon this weekend to visit the mrs, and had a half (driving ) of Otter ale, and it was lovely - a very refreshing beverage indeed. Fairly light, not too bitter but just enough to be refreshing

Re: The Hexus good Ale guide

Had a bottle of Hobgoblin the other night, very nice, certainly goes on my list.

My overall favourate has to be Adnam's Broadside though. Dark, heavy, fruity, I love it. But its really an evening Autumn/Winter drink, not one for knocking back.

T.E.A is one of my favs too, oh and I drank quite a lot of Summer Lightning this summer.

Re: The Hexus good Ale guide

    Bit of a bump!

I just had a mighty fine ale - Strong Suffolk Vintage from Greene King. It's a reasonably strong ale, at 6%, and nice and dark - almost ruby. Picked a bottle up in the local Sainsbury's - i try to sample a few different ales and ciders each week (none of this carling and strongbow s***e). Poured it out and it was just great, easy to drink, didn't taste too "grainy" like some pale ales tend to be. They claim it's a blend of two ales too. The bottle also says that it's won an international gold award by the "Brewing Industry International Awards" - damn deserved too.

Worth a punt if you find it in your local offie

Hobgoblin is also very much popular here at Warwick - that poster, and more are plastered all over the local pub. Good stuff

Good bump. I was in Sainsbury's looking only a week ago, and I saw that, and I.... didn't get it because I fell for a name!

    BATEMAN'S DARK LORD

Man, that was a great bottle of beer. Dark red, almost porter-like, and besides.. it had a bloke in full plate armour on the friont, with my name on it

Re: The Hexus good Ale guide

Have to say one of my favourites is Sharps' Doom Bar. Brewed in one of the nicest parts of cornwall, Rock, and named after the infamous sandbank in the camel estuary.
Has a really well balanced malted/hoppy aroma, slightly fruity, and the taste in one word is gorgeous.
Ill just quote their website on the taste as it describes it pretty damn well
The mouth feel is a perfectly balanced and complex blend of succulent dried fruit, lightly roasted malty notes and a subtle yet assertive bitterness.
This is an ale that you just want more of. Lovely stuff.

I have been to their brewery as I go to rock every year for a couple of weeks, tried some of their other beers. I have to say, I dont think they are capable of making a mediocre beer. They are all nectar.
But for me, Doom Bar tops the lot.

Definately agree with that - Good Pint!

Anyone ever had North Eastern Mordue Brewery "Workie Ticket" @ 4.5% - another good pint, although not as strong as some of the ales mentioned above, not really a session beer.
    http://www.morduebrewery.com/beers/beer.php?beers_id=1

This ale is not a new addition to Mordue's line, introduced in 1999, but has took a lot of Black Sheep bitter drinkers by surprise lately with its addition in certain pubs in the North East!
