While we're on the topic I was wondering if any of you have any of the cheaper models. Would love to start making my own soups and cheap stews but don't want to be blow £25 on something I may not have the patience for.

Or is there not really a whole lot of difference besides size? Sorry for sidetracking and thanks in advance

I went for a cooker that had an auto function - starts on high, to heat the food up and then goes down to a lower heat for the remainder of the cook.
However, if you are going to be around, you can manually start on high and then turn it down, but I like to put the food on first thing, to cook whilst I am out.
Argos have got a Cookworks 3.5l for £14.99 - looks really good.

Cooked salt beef 2 weekends ago. My local butcher brined some brisket for a week for me - just charged me for the beef. Put stew type veggies in cooker and some mace and allspice, popped in the beef, covered with water and 7 hours later had the most delicious salt beef sarnies. Yumtastic!
Following day made soup out of the water and veggies. A bit too salty.

The Saltbeef sounds awesome !! you must have a good local butcher. next time the addition of a few raw potatoes while cooking should reduce the salt levels a bit.

Thanks for the tattie tip! It's possible that 7 hours cooking was too long - as the salt beef itself did not taste at all salty - will try 4-5 hours next time - maybe less salt will leach out - and enjoy checking the results, slurp!
The butcher is good. Oddly, last week I asked a different butcher about brining and he told me that the process was banned years ago. Who to believe? - but as long as the other butcher still does my brining then doesn't matter. Academic anyway, as the brineless butcher then told me he was closing the next day, after 40 years. Then sold me some ribeye steak for cash, at a third off.

My wife picked up a small (for 2 people) slow cooker from Sainsbury's the other day, as the one we had before was far too big for us. Was only about £15, I think.

The dish I like done in it is Thai Red curry Pork. Delish.
