I mostly drink white tea, either white peony or silver needle. I quit supermarket tea bags after seeing a table comparing the flouride content of various teas, parts of the plant etc. probably the aluminium content is similar.
I used to brew 2 grams in the morning then keep reusing the leaves all day, but it oxidises (wondered why it was gong black) and isnt particularly good for you in that state. Now i just use a fresh pinch for every cup.
Just saw this thread. For my ten pence worth I grew up never drinking coffee or tea. Got tired of people struggling to offer me something at their homes though so figured I'd better learn how to drink one or the other. As of now I drink both. However, my first step was towards tea and though I'd tried and not liked a few types I'd heard that green tea had health benefits so figured I'd try to acquire a taste for it.
It was at a Japanese restaurant - Yoshimatsu in Tucson, AZ, USA - that I ordered an iced green tea. My plan was to drink it slowly and just get through it. I couldn't have been more wrong. It was amazing! I almost downed it and went back for more. After that I went hunting for green tea and sadly all the tea I tried was awful. Couldn't compare with whatever they served at the restaurant. Generally the teas I bought were either bitter or were nastly 'infusions' with lemon or ginger or whatever.
In the I eventually found this stuff:
http://www.amazon.com/Kirkland-Signa...o+en+green+tea
It's not a perfect match but when you learn how to brew it - with a bit of experimentation (apparently brewing green tea right off the boil brings out bitterness) - it's actually rather good. Only problem was that I could only find it in Costco, USA. I've never checked an English Costco. I'm sure the better japanese loose stuff is awesome, but it's also quite a bit more expensive. So instead, since moving back across to this side of the pond, I have friends and family send over care package of the stuff!
But - my story isn't quite over. When on a trip through London I found (in a train station I think- could have been an airport) - a small kiosk selling japanese food and bottles of this: http://www.amazon.com/Ito-En-Japanes.../dp/B0017T2MWW
It turns out that that stuff is what I must have been served at the restaurant. Same brand as the tea bags - Ito En - only better quality. Honestly, if you want to try green tea - try one of those bottles. It tastes amazing. Not at all like any other tea you've tried. I promise.
I don't live in the UK so don't know where it is available outside of airports/train stations but if you see it, try it.
Otherwise, try a box of those tea bags. Just remember to let the water sit in the cup a short while before steeping.
I also sometimes in the summer let the tea go cold and then ice it.
Lovely!

Discovered www.teapigs.co.uk recently and am pretty hooked. Their Japanese Popcorn tea and also the Chilli Chai are awesome, and the licquorice and peppermint is great of an afternoon.
Korean green tea is really good. Has some sort of brown dried rice in it which takes the bitter edge off the tea - much nicer than it sounds.
Straight green tea tastes like grass to me, hot or cold
Soukenbicha is where it's at on an unbelievably hot day、 if not then a nice cold mugicha.
I have to say that when I was young I never drank tea (much to the disgrace of my staunch Yorkshire family), but nowadays I have one every so often and immediately exclaim that I'd forgotten how much I like tea and should drink it more often. Then I go back to chugging cheap instant at work (so much quicker/easier) and forget all about it until next time!
This summer I tried to have a day out in Nottingham on a Monday, and found pretty much everything was shut (seriously - Nottingham closes on a Monday. Don't go there). One of the few things that was open, and a highlight of the day, was Lee Rosy's. They have an incredible selection of tea - all kind of black, green, white, plus rooibos and other herbals - and it appears you can purchase online (by 100g bags). Well worth checking out, and also worth popping in if you happen to be in Nottingham at all
I am going to quote myself on this, but that tea I had was really different from the stuff you mostly get in the UK. A lot of it uses lower grade teas mixed with the much more expensive stuff,ie,its blended.
Even with single country teas, there is variation dependent on location and height, and again you will find the tea is blended to a degree between different locations.
Tea from the estate,is so much nicer though!!
don't drink much tea or coffee .. maybe one cup a day ..
but when i'm feeling blue or run down a couple of cups of lady grey hit the spot .....
lol yeah ..i know what your thinking ... no ..
Green tea is amazing, if you find it too bland... let the bag infuse for 2 minutes, don't use boiling water and perhaps add a tsp of honey.
Did anyone see the program with Victoria Wood about tea on BBC something-or-other the other week?
I had no idea that regular oolong, black tea, green tea and white tea are all from the same pant. In fact they are all from the same picked leaves, it's all about what they do to them after picking. I found it interesting.
Well I am also using green tea from many week but I didn't feel any difference in my health. Some one told me that green tea is very good for obesity. but I think its very slow working for my problem.
