I have that issue - I eat anything and everything and never gain weight at all. All my mates call me all sorts of rude names that are not fit for a family forum as they've all got beer guts and podgy faces now as they're getting old and I still look thn, and fresh faced

Have you tried eating meals and having the "shakes" along side them as thats supposed to be a good way of increase bodymass ?

Are you also a vegetarian Merlin? 'Cos if not you can just up your intake of lean meat like turkey, chicken breast, steak, pork chops etc. and not have to bother with shakes.

If you are, then the main type of protein powder is based on whey (I.E. milk) proteins. This as I understand it wouldn't be suitable for vegans, but most veggies will be O.K. with it I think. It's not cheap; as far as I can tell it seems to cost maybe £15-20 per kilo, which depending on how much extra protein you need will last between one and three weeks. For people who can't or won't use a milk based product, you can also get soy protein powders.

Personally, although I'm not a vegetarian, I didn't eat much meat when I was living on my own and I got plenty of protein from peanut butter, milk and cheese. Those foods have a high fat content though; it wasnt a problem for me as I got plenty of aerobic exercise to burn it off. I've never bothered with protein shakes and I'm not skinny.

thing is m8 , im a at uni, and to students. Meat doesnt come across as being very cheap, so i stick to beans on toast lol. I drink about 4 pints of milk a day. and cheese is a favourite . I think my motabalism is stupidly fast, as i find myself emptying my bowls a hell of a lot LOL!!

Chicken breast isn't cheap it is true; however keep your eyes open for when it's on special offer or reduced at the end of the day. When I was a student I used to eat a fair bit of corned beef (at 40p a tin it's a lot of protein for the money), sardines, and cheapo beef mince. If you can be bothered, buying and roasting a chicken gives you a lot of meat for not very much outlay. Anyway if price is a concern protein powders are definately not the way forward......

Theres loads of stuff you can do, drink less is one, protein shakes come out at maybe equal to 3 pints a week in terms of cost, which isnt that much. Mince is pretty damn cheap, see if you can buy with mates, me and m housemates eat well for ~15 a week if you cant afford that much then get a job, also tofu is supposed to be quite good.

What's so unusual about it? I know plenty of people who would like to gain weight, probably more than would like to lose weight.

Personally, I can't gain or lose weight without extreme effort. If I stop eating I become sluggish and sleep 20 hours a day and get hungry enough where I would kill for food, way before I would lose a noticeablke ammount of weight (which is good as I have no surplus weight to lose). I just can't eat more easily and if I force myself too, I don't gain weight, I just have more energy and stay up longer. Anyway, I'm perfectly content being my skinny 188cm tall, 68kg, self.
