Indeed - I'd rather use a little bit of real butter than the refined axle grease that is those spreads

    Butter or nothing.

Butter and other spreads are bad for you. Butter tastes good; spreads don't.

If you are going to put something on that is bad for you, have something that actually is worth adding.

Or drizzle a little olive oil on top.

I used to think there was no substitute for a good lump of butter in mashed spud but there is!
I now add a glug of good Olive Oil,a couple of roasted garlic cloves and a teaspoon of white wine vinegar.Oh,and Maldon & Black Pepper of course!

I only let myself have butter at the weekends - I hate margarine and the various other spreads - it's possibly okay to have them in sandwiches but on toast? Forget it! Yuck!

Currently on toast I have a thick layer of honey instead. It's probably more fattening but I don't miss the butter at all. I'm reasonably fit and exercise a lot and am torn between the whole life's too short not to eat butter approach and the thought of it furring my arteries with every delicious bite..

So as others have said, a bit of moderation but don't give up on it altogether.

Bringing back an old thread here but I've recently been told that it's a good idea to remove margarine and spreads from your diet and replace them with butter, in moderation.

So my Flora is going out and my question now is, are spreadable butters the same as normal butter? I tried spreading some Lurpak on my toast this morning and it didn't go too well!

I think some of the spreadable butters are full of weird and wonderful stuff, but others are just a mixture of butter milk and some vegtable oils.
