Ah bugger. I just read that the first book is already 20 years old already. Well, I'll just have to get used to a slower pace then
My only concern is should I hide my true identity? A costume maybe?

    Can't wait!

In an unusual spin, though, I've found I still don't get on too well with the books. I've tried the first couple but for some reason, I just can't get into them.

The tv series had me hooked from the first few moments.

I watched the first season reason, then read the first book and watched the series again a couple of months later

It's very well done when comparing to the book, almost scene for scene.

    Re: Game of Thrones

Loved the tv show, will probably read the books at some point aswell. Although I often don't like watching and reading the same thing, since I normally feel disappointed by one or the other.

Am getting them in 1080p just so I can watch them again

People like Spartacus and Rome? Since I thought they were in a similar style

    Re: Game of Thrones

I think it usually makes more sense to watch the TV show through then read the books, as its the TV show that is likely to be the worst of the two

Agreed, and definitely so in this case. I'll watch the second season when it airs but after reading the books I'm just not that bothered.

I think I'm in a minority here but as I've said before there is a lot lacking in the show compared to the books. True they seem to have included most of the major scenes but seem to just gloss over them so you really don't get much character depth. And some of the acting is a bit dodgy to say the least, Peter Dinklage excepted.

    Re: Game of Thrones

An author can spend pages and pages writing about the tiniest detail, a TV show is limited to 45-60 minutes per show. There will always be compromises, a lot of these compromises can be lifted by inference of character based on stereotype. I think some of the actors in the TV show take this too far... which may be its eventual downfall.

    Re: Game of Thrones

I dont think Dinklage is anything like the Tyrion i envisaged in the books. This however, is not a bad thing entirely, much though Tyrion is probably my favourite character in a fantasy series (with the exception of Fitz) Dinklage's interpretation is that of someone far more at peace with themselves than the one Martin portrays imo. I love Dinklages Tyrion though, so laconic, almost arrogant and so so funny

Everyone has their own perspective on writtent works, in film we tend to see several (from each of the actors) and one overall (from the director). Thankfully in Game of Thrones it works well
We're only here for the Banter - The Luvvies - Chewin' The Fat

Violence and Lubrication is the solution to fixing everything, if it still doesn't work, you need more lubrication.

It gets better, for me Tyrion Lannaster stole the show, though theres a lot of interesting characters like Varys up to little things too.
