    Cybersquatted

Is it possible to get rid of squatters, theres a few domains I've tried to register for our chinese arm at work and the domains have been taken but there are no actual sites.
One for instance, we registered as a limited company over in china begining of march, then someone on the 6th of march registered the domain we were after...

    Re: Cybersquatted

Tricky one - especially overseas domains. In UK I believe you can talk to the registrars and there may be some redress, but otherwise it is a case of first come, first served. You need to take legal advice, or negotiate with the squatters (although it goes against all instincts) and buy it off them. You could make them an offer, but threaten legal action as an alternative... but I would get some legal advice first.

    Re: Cybersquatted

Is there a reason you didn't register these domains in advance? I mean you or someone else in authority must've known this limited company registration in China was on the cards for a while?

What makes you think that the people that make the descisions talk to the people in the IT department until they actually want said department to do something?

    Re: Cybersquatted

The problem is that China seems to be a law unto themselves when it comes to the internet so it could be pretty hard to get it sorted.

In the majority of the western world I think there are laws in place to stop people cyber squatting. As said above it might be an idea to contact the registrar where the domains are registered too and see what they can do

    Re: Cybersquatted

It's a fine line between cybersquatting & domain name prospecting.

Probably the simplest solution. The other domain isn't being used, so there is little risk (at the moment) of "passing off" There is a danger that the current owner may sell it to a competitor, however they may lose interest when the registration comes up for renewal and there may be an opportunity to get it then.
