hmm, I thought that's exactly what I suggested in post #5, with a static IP and 1 domain hosted free thrown in.

They may have been bought out by pipex and then tiscali, but I have honestly not seen any evidence of that affecting the service they deliver nor the quality of support. I've been with them 4 years, I live rurally and my connection has only gone down twice - both times due to equipment failure at my not-so-local exchange. I don't know what else you could be looking for at that price point. Seriously, you should at least consider them and not just dismiss out of hand because of the pipex/tiscali connection.

Virgin aren't too bad, alright you get throttled but in a house of students it's better than being hit for download charges if you hit a cap.

Suppose we're all subsidising people with cloned modems

Whilst Sky are great when it works the Support can be pretty dire at times.

The only time I had to deal with them I explained what was happening(wasnt able to auth) They asked me if the router was in sync. Even though I had just explained to them that I had a good SNR margin and that it wasnt authing.
The other thing with Sky is that they dont offer static IP`s which has been really annoying at times for me as I had spent the past 3 years before coming to sky with a range of 8 static Ip`s.

Its a valid comment that currently Its almost impossible to find an ISP that offers Great speeds, high usage and good Support for cheap prices.

    Re: Decent ISPs?

I'm with talktalk but wouldnt recommend them due to how long it took for them to process my order - although they may have got better now I guess.
A few of my friends have gone with sky and havent heard anything negative from them (and indeed have been quite positive)

    Re: Decent ISPs?

I worked for talk talk business for 6 months and as such we where a reseller of talk talk resisendital. The service is pretty dire and the level of diagnostics help offered is really poor. I wouldnt recomend it even to my worst enemies

    Re: Decent ISPs?

If your after english support go with o2 if your not too bothered about the english support then BE* is great especially if you got a good line and want fast-path turned on.

As for Adsl24 that's not unlimited and you have an on peak and off peak time. I was with another reseller of Entanet and found after 10pm the whole network would feel laggy if playing games but once they open another segment up I'm sure that will disapear for a month of so.

I moved to be as soon as they where available in my are and can sync at the full 24mb and have had no issues so far.

If your not sure what is available in your area i.e. LLU's try samknows and do a exchange search.

    Re: Decent ISPs?

I think with ISP's its quite down to like the person some people have good results and good things to say about companies others don't i hear so much AOL hate yet i have been with them for somthing like 7 years and have never had a problem and get the speed speed within my village on it. I know someone is gonna kill me for saying this.

If it works for you thats great I know AOL have been tricking people back in to contracts with "try this upgrade and if it don't work you can move" trick.

But I am going off posts on DSLZoneuk
