Strange question maybe, but i noticed that quite a few threads have the 56k warning on them and I was wondering if anyone still uses 56k?

I think it is like a saying now, not really meant literally any more. Sounds better than "Big pics inside"
I bet there are still a few people using it but I would like to think analogue modems are almost history
I still have 2 x 56ks and a 33k modem in my box-o-PC-****e.

Yep, the company I support is still using dial-up to connect into various banking systems. This isn't as rare as you might like to think.
I have a modem here somewhere... might plug her in and take her for a spin

I've still got at least half a dozen. Several are 56k, a couple are 14.4 and I've even got a couple of old 2400 Dowty Quattros, and some . And they were a grand a piece at the time. Yup, two modems were £2000!
The moral of the story ..... I need a VERY thorough tidy up .... and a 40-tonner to get the rubbish to the tip.
Me reckons getting mains water is more of a concern than BB for the poor sods who still cant get it.
Anyone remember ISDN? Satelite? Those were the days, man!
I use my Sega Dreamcast 33k modem every 3/4 months to keep my old Dialup mail account Alive.
WEEE regs probably. But my local tip does take computer stuff. In fact, they put it in a separate little cage, and they check through it to see what they can "recycle". In fact, if I've got anything I think might be useful, I pop into their office and point it out. They seem to appreciate that.
A lot of those rip off cash machines in pubs etc. use dial up modems.
Until a couple of months ago I dialled into a 9.6k modem on an ancient but reliable TTY based Transmission management Computer at work. But the whole system has now been replaced.
I'm not sure I would even resort to a dial up to the net in the event my BB fails.
Do Isp's even offer dial up accounts anymore?
Beer is life, life is good!
we still use it to connect to a banking system. A lot of chip and pin system still use 56k as well.

Barclays Business Master 2 uses dialup to communicate. Their internet banking doesn't support multiple currencies so we are stuck using that piece of utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter, utter junk.
I think it was first made in Windows 3.11 days and hasn't been updated since.
"In a perfect world... spammers would get caught, go to jail, and share a cell with many men who have enlarged their penises, taken Viagra and are looking for a new relationship."
Possibly but most rubbish tips do take electricals. The WEEE Directive is geared towards business's really.
The main cause is probably the cost of recycling/disposal by the actual tip.
Actually the WEE Directive does state that if you want to dispose of electrical equipment, you can take it back to where it was origianlly purchased and the retailer has the repsonsibility to dispose at their cost.
