    Re: Odd tech calls

I had a user call up the helpdesk just before christmas complaining that the printer did not work so i asks her if it is connected to the computer and she says yea all connected and so i Radmin into the machine and i see no machine, so i question her further and it only turns out that the printer she is trying to print to which is usually right next to her computer is packed away (by her) in the box in the storage cupboard because they had a flood in one her lab.

    Re: Odd tech calls

Used to get loads of Priority 1 calls (2 hour response, 4 hour fix) from our local authority remote site customers that were reported as loss of connectivity or total loss of service, that resulted in a member of staff asking for a new keyboard or mouse.

"Hang on, do you not understand that we only provide the local link back to your central office?"

    "But aren't you from IT?"

    "No"

"Can I have a new mouse?"

    "No"

"What exension are IT on then?"

    Re: Odd tech calls

One day when I was using one of the college library computers, I saw a woman trying to insert a 3.5" floppy disk into a CD-ROM drive. She tried rotating it, turning it upside down, forcing the drive closed...... I took pity on her eventually and showed the the right drive to use.

    Re: Odd tech calls

Not computer, but close: my firm (Plessey) used to make keyboards, so in the office we had an engineer in charge of design and production.

The office's secretary had an early IBM Golfball electronic typewriter on which there was a faint letter. She asked the engineer to have a look at the typewriter, saying ..."it doesn't matter how hard I hit the key, it doesn't get any better...".
I'd never before seen a man bury his head in his hands and groan!
