That is a BT66 Junction box. It will have either screw connector blocks or gel crimps inside to join the wires.

if you undo the screw, The cover slides upwards on lips on the outside of the box.

    Ok thanks.

Woudl it be possible to disconnect the ringer wires in there and do the same in the socket my routers connected to or isn't there ringer wires inside there.

Plus legally is anything in there bt side and coming out is my side.

Ahh I see, in series you mean?

Well that first socket in the line would be the master or the one that would give the best adsl signal.

I think you just disconnect the bell wire (#3 usually orange) in the first phone socket and that would sort it.

They aren't in a series though. Only one of them is. The rest of them all come from the BT66. You can just see it in the pic. I think that one is as it was added in later.

Up to the master socket there is only two (active)wires coming from the street, -50v & 0v. The bell wire should be connected at the master socket. Make sure you only have one master socket as some people have fitted more than one and it will affect the line attenuation reading.

Like it has already been said, very few phones need the bell wire and even then, using a microfilter on the phone will create the ring signal for them anyway.

    Re: No BT Master Socket

I understand it now. Thats alot of sockets!

Now what are you wanting to do? Remove the bell wire, or put a BT master socket in?

    Tell me about the wires!

I was going to install an iplate but after reading how disconnecting the bell wire has the same affect (an i can't install an iplate now) i want to do that.

    Re: No BT Master Socket

Old master sockets did not have a split face. They have a capacitor, Surge arrestor and resistor inside. Slaves have no components in them.

    Re: No BT Master Socket

i got an old socket too, the thick yellow cable is from the street
the other 2 wires on 2 and 5 goes to an extension socket where everything is plugged in.
there's also a black+green wire that comes out the yellow cable which is the 2nd phone line which we used to have.

also, here's a reference that may or may not be helpful
