Ad-hoc wifi network + mobile internet sharing

I need to set up a temporary wireless network for a few users, with internet connection sharing. My internet currently comes from a mobile phone on 3. I've tried creating an ad-hoc wifi network (using the "Set up a connection or a network" wizard in Vista) and enabling Internet Connection Sharing for the mobile connection, but it did not work.

For the ad-hoc network, I've tried both obtaining the IP addresses automatically and entering them manually. With automatic addresses, the connection was constantly in "Identifying..." state. With manual entry, the computers were connected to each other. Internet sharing did not work in both cases.

So, I'm wondering if anyone else tried to set up something similar, and did it work? All PCs in question have Vista, if that's important. I'd appreciate any help on this.

    What kind of phone?

There is software out there for smartphones to turn them into wireless routers. I know it exists for both Symbian and Windows Mobile. I keep meaning to download and install it for my phone. Would come in handy on occasion.

It's a Nokia 5800. I've actually got that kind of software for it - JoikuSpot it's called. I've tried it as well, the other person could not connect to it at all. I'll try it again tomorrow, in case I did something wrong =)

I know it can be done, but I have no idea about the technicalities, sorry.

Again this may be way over the top but I did see this nifty gadget in my local Three Shop when I was taking my phone back to be fixed.

Re: Ad-hoc wifi network + mobile internet sharing

Just a quick update for anyone interested in such a setup.

I purchased a license for the full version of JoikuSpot, and it's working perfectly. Well, as perfectly as 3 mobile internet allows it It's really easy to set up and connect to. Also, there seems to be a nice discount at the moment, you can get it with 40% off.
