DNS issues

Windows 7 x64 bit attached to a Domain.

I can ping the DC, via IP and name, I can run NSLOOKUP and it finds it, but my network shortcuts do not want to know. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. After a reboot it might work. I can access the shares by IP just not name.

Any ideas where to start? I've run out of coffee and ideas.

Check that your DHCP server is passing the right suffix, if your network shortcuts have a UNC of \\server\share and the suffix is broken or missing then it'll fall back to netbios resolution which is probably disabled on your network.

OK made some tweaks in the GPO with DNS suffixes. Lets see if that sorts it.

If you're having netbios issues and you've not got wins then look into Global names in DNS for windows server 2008.
