As a Draytek user, I can say that it is absolutely bullet proof... but then so is my DG834GT running the DGTeam firmware and that costs about £10 on fleabay. Okay, it is not a fair comparison because Draytek is much more feature rich and allows things like VPN etc and is slightly more stable than DG834GT, but you can't beat DG834GT from a price/performance ratio perspective for home use. However, if my business depended on it, I would go for Draytek.

what versions of the DG834GT support the DGTeam firmware and are some versions better than others?

Another option would be the new Netgear DGN 3500 it has 4 gigabyte ports and wireless N, its not dualband though and will set you back £100, currently running the dualband version without gigabyte ports in the house and are more then impressed.

There is only one DG834GT version, the white Netgear box that used to come free with Sky broadband. However, DGTeam firmware is supported on the following routers

    DG834GT
    DG834PN
    DG834N-V1
    DGN2000
    DG834(G)-V1-V2
    DG834(G)-V3
    DG834(G)-V4

I notice the dual band routers are only one band or the other (I really can't see much of an advantage in this), is this the way of things or do some operate on both bands at the same time?

Re: Do any decent wireless N access points/routers have gigabit ports?

dunno bout other ones, but i use a wrt610n v2 an it runs dual band both 2.4 an 5GHz at the same time, also it comes with gigabit ports (including the WAN) tho not that its really needed, also if u get the storage model, it comes with a USB port that u can plug just bout any USB HDD / key upto, and setup file sharing / FTP web access etc to straight from the router. only thing i hate bout this router is that it doesn't support jumbo frames but otherwise a great router / wireless AP (it even works with DD-WRT firmwares if u pref)
