works wireless yet cable? no hope

heres an odd one for somebody to try and help me work out, ive decided to connect to my network through network cable instead of wireless due to alot of lag and such online. wireless i can connect fine. i can also connect fine through the cable....but if i leave it on (my pc) for a while it will suddenly drop the connection (on cable) and will not for the hope in hell reconnect! i can still connect wirelessly mind lol. my other pc (on cable aswell) stays connected fine so i know its something to do with the pc....but the pc is a pretty fresh install? i can sort the problem out by restarting but i dont think i should have to put up with it...so any ideas??

Ethernet port or cable could be suspect , try changing either.

Could be worth checking power saving settings for the adapter if it falls over again

if you go to device manager, find your Ethernet adapter in the list then on one of the tabs there should be a list of options fr it including power saving settings. Im not on a windows PC at the moment so i cant give you an accurate step by step but its not particularly hidden.

Re: works wireless yet cable? no hope

ok, after some more testing im still getting the same problems, but this time...windows told me that it had found a problem, the ip was wrong! either way a restart didnt sort it and neither did reseting the router, but letting windows detect other problems did solve it....am i going to have to keep putting up with this?

Re: works wireless yet cable? no hope

you could manually assign the IP to the adapter so that it stays as the correct one
