    Which Router - Download/Upload QoS

Hello there, I have been through two routers now and both seem to throttle the connection to the point where it is unusable if i'm using maximum download and moderate upload. I was wondering if this is a limitation of ADSL-MAX(8MB) or perhaps a better router & 'QoS' would be able to make the other users in the house more comfortable while I'm downloading ? Thanks.

Re: Which Router - Download/Upload QoS

No domestic router is going to be able to QoS your downstream usage. If you are downloading flat out then others sharing your broadband are going to notice. This isn't becuase your router is doing anything, you just dont have any more bandwidth available.

There are routers that have QoS facilities. I haven't tried any of them but I expect they would be able to control upstream usage fairly well. You would be able to limit the speed of your download by limiting your upload, but it is unlikely to be very satisfactory. My current virgin issue Netgear has QoS, as does the Talk Talk issue router.

Re: Which Router - Download/Upload QoS

My Draytek 2800 offers bandwidth management on a per IP address basis, and also QoS services. It has been replaced by the 2820 or the 2710 - both of which I think offer similar services. It isn't a facility I use, but there is some advice here:

Been helped or just 'Like' a post? Use the Thanks button!
