can you have a business isp at your home?

if i went with virgin business as i have got cable what would it cost to get 20mb up and down with no data limits a month.

Dunno, you could call them and ask, but their "Big Red Internet" package looks like it'd be what you need for synchronous connectivity. Bear in mind that the fact that they don't advertise a price on their internet likely means that you will need a surplus of arms and legs. Also it's charged annually, not monthly.

It won't be cheap in any way, shape or form.

well this is the price i found

“It’s dedicated fibre, symmetric and uncontended,” said Mark Heraghty, managing director of Virgin Media Business. “Fill your boots!”

The 100Mbps service costs £12,000 per year, or £13,000 for a managed service, while the 1Gbps service costs £22,000 or £25,000 for a managed service which includes router installation and proactive network management

Doesn't sound that expensive TBH. 100Mbps service from BT are pricier IIRC. I've got quotes somewhere.

That seems pretty cheap, all told. I'm guessing that with it being a business line that thos prices are VAT exclusive?

That Sky package is unlimited, hence why it's in the mix.

    Re: Switching ISP

Just an update: my dad called AOL today and requested a MAC, they weren't very keen to give it what with my dad being a customer for 5 years. So we are being offered this: Line rental, unlimited calls to uk and european numbers, 24mbit internet (our line will top out at 16 but that should just mean that we get closer to the limit) and a 60gb limit ("unlimited") for £22 a month. And they said that there is less traffic shaping because less people are on that line. Sounds good in theory...
Very good offer if nothing else, nice to know they can be bargained with.

£22 is a very good price - I pay BT nearly that for line and calls

60GB is good too. Would not consider Sky if you can get their Connect package. Sometimes better to stay with who you know and if you're happy with AOL then I don't think a price could be much better with the same perks.

Price wise thats not bad - if it wasnt with AOL (aka talk talk) then it would probably be a good deal..but that 60gb limit is the downside, thats where they get you.

The same deal is about £26 at most places - but with higher download limits (properly unlimited) with someone like Sky, or you can get a similar deal (again around £25) via primus.

or if you have an o2 or orange phone, they can both beat that price even from their public price lists..

    Re: Switching ISP

I'll never use 60gb tbh, we're on that limit on the moment and we've never exceeded it. The issue we have is traffic shaping - apart from that I have no complaints - genuinely. I'm not certain they can beat that if you factor in international unlimited landline calls. They said traffic shaping is much less bad on this package and if that's true then it's a great deal. We were already on a contract and we're now on a new one, fee to cancel is £22.77 if we switch, and as far as I'm concerned the cashback from the new isp via quidco will cover that if we need to.

With all ISPs check their Fair Usage Policy. Primus (even unlimited) has a limit - http://www.primussaver.co.uk/fair-usage-policy.html - beneath the flashy ads lies the truth.
