    internet fax and phone

    Hello,
I am trying to source a part for a customer but cant seem to find anywhere that stocks it.

My customer wants to have internet, phone and fax on the same line. the fax machine has the same sort of cable that the router uses. Currently My customer has to unplug the internet out of the micro filter to plug in the fax. A guy in maplin told me you can get a micro filter with two dsl sockets and one phone socket but i cannot find a supplier. the premises has two phone sockets. one has a cordless phone and one has a hardwired phone.

does anyone know anywhere that supplies these? or anyother solution.

    thanks in advance

    Re: internet fax and phone

Doesn't the fax machine have the facility to plug a phone into it? Most business ones do, although using the phone negates using the fax at the same time. You can, however, set the fax machine to pick up as fax after a certain amount of rings...

    Re: internet fax and phone

Sounds like you want a BT modular plug to BT modular/RJ11 splitter.

Keep the DSL splitter where it is, keep the DSL modem/router in the ADSL/RJ11 side, and fit the adapter in the BT modular (phone) socket, and connect the phone/fax to that.

I did try looking on the Maplin site, as they used to sell things like that, but couldnt find anything suitable.

    Re: internet fax and phone

    As BobF64 says.

He shouldn't be plugging his fax machine into the DSL port! Although it probably won't make much difference to the fax, if he DID plug it into an R|J11 splitter, the fax machine would wipe out the ADSL signal. Fax machines need to be connecttted to the same port on an ADSL filter that a phone goes to - because a fax uses audio signals to send the data.

    Hey BobF64,

I cant seem to work out from your description quite where to put the device you linked to.

do i plug in the phone and fax in to the new device and put the new device in to the phone side of the current microfilter?

    Re: internet fax and phone

The phone and fax both plug into the adaptor - the adaptor then goes into the phone side of the ADSL filter.

The fax is no different from an extension phone.
