New Netgear MIMO router

I've just bought and installed the Netgear DG834PN router with USB adapter.
Installed and connects to the internet but so so slow.
Any ideas for me please? I do have a slightly dodgy rj45 connection on the puter but that should not affect it, I think. Plus, when I check the signal on the USB adapter of the second puter the signal is minimal even tho they are along side each other.
Tried a few things but reached the end of my knowledge

Just to let you know that the speed is fine now after a simple re-boot.

you get the stands with the router do place them on, keeps it away from the floor no static i hope. Also try and keep it away not too close to walls and electrical equipment, but sometimes u cannot avoid to.

U do not see a big difference untill u use the the actual key that comes with it and try it out from a distance with say a lappy shoudl be interesting to see if it can handle it.
