    eclipse broadband

Does anyone here use eclipse broadband? I would normally use zen, but it is not for me and a little unnecessary for my friend, who won't be using it that heavily.

I'm confused by the evolution package and the home broadband, can someone explain them to me.

Also, is traffic shaping used, whats customer services like etc

    Im on Evo2.

30gb PEAK TIME downloads (6pm - midnight) which to be very honest is very good.

    Off peak, its unlimited downloads.

It's costing me free activation (signed up for 12 months), £12.99 for first 3 months, therefore £18.99 after.

I opted for no hardware as have my own wifi router...

Traffic shaping, is only on NNTP as far as i know. I've found they limit this to 300kbs (~2mb)

Home broadband looked like a no brainer, compared to the Evo. Its more expensive and didnt appear to offer as much. Hence why i opted for the Evo.

To be honest i didnt want a cap or any restrictions but in the end, having used eclipse 3 times previously. I decided that I could live with 30gb cap during peak time...

    I thoroughly recommend them.

i was going to go with option 1, i doubt that much will be used. What happens if it is though? do you get cut off? or do you just have your bandwidth cut to something tiny?

Just realised that the home option does seem a little stupid...2GB anytime compared to 20GB on peak and unlimited off peak? strange

I signed up for Evo3 last week (but may change to option 2 for free later) partly because of their calls package (all 01 and 02 calls at any time for £5.99 pm) although I'm still waiting for this part to connect.

Overall download speed tools show my MaxDSL is faster than when I was at Plus Net although downloads do seem slower (but that could be for other reasons). My modem still shows an 8K+ connection.

I've asked a couple of questions via their online system. I thought a couple of the replies were a bit condescending and also slow 24-48 hours minimum.

if you overrun your peak time bandwidth for 2 consecutive months, they lower your service apparently.

they send a letter each time you go over the limit apparently.

all you have to do is remember to surf during peak and download offpeak.

Im thinking of signing up with the Eclipse 'Option4' thing, with the 50Gb peak cap.

Is the NNTP the only shaping/blocking they do?
As if so, thats not a problem for me as i dont use it anyway.

I'm on the top Evo4 package.

Had 1 outage in 4 years and that was for a couple of hours. No other problems at all.

Not the cheapest around - certainly one of the best though

No they shape everything and that inc's http/ftp/p2p/nntp any form of traffic on the eclipse network is "shaped" "managed" "throttled"

Am on the Evo 1 option, peak time is a joke for d/l's at all, off peak is not much better.

Do you have detail of the throttling they do?
Prehaps a link to something on ADSL Guide?

    Thanks.

I've been on eclipse for about 3 months now (17.99 unlimited 512k) and the connection has been fine. When I did have a problem a few days ago I managed to get through to their cusomer services team in about 15 mins (9.30am on a weekday) which was a refreshing change to the hours spent waiting to get through to some dunce at pipex whom I was with previously.
