DSL Usage Limits, how much are users likely to use?

I'm about to switch my broadband from Pipex to another supplier, probably Freedom2Surf.

Freedom2Surf have a package which offers 50Gb usage per month, I'm just wondering what the chances are of me going over that? I have my broadband connected to my PC, my brothers Apple Mac and my Xbox 360 too. I do surf the internet a lot, if I'm not surfing, somebody else in the house will be. I don't download that much myself, but I think my brother does via iTunes. I use my 360 a lot for online gaming, and often download demos, trailers etc from Live which can often be around 1Gb in size each.

Is 50Gb per month likely to be enough for me or am I likely to run into trouble? For an additional £6 per month they will up the limit to 100Gb, but I'm not sure if I need that.

Last but not least, if I hit the limit do they warn me before they start charging for additional bandwidth?

I don't fancy changing my BT line or my Sky TV.

Hi there Parm....to try and answer your question...browsing uses bugger-all bandwith, so all you need to worry about is your brothers itunes and your trailers.

    50Gb/month is about 1.5Gb a day.....

an album on itunes is about 80mb...

so it comes down to your demos + trailers.... you could quite happily download a demo a day and not go over your limit....and i cant believe that xbox live put out that much content!

    So i think you'll be fine...50Gb is only gonna be a limit for a hardcore p2p downloader....films/iso/whole tv series...etc....

AS for whether they would notify you - most likely they will let you setup an email alert if you get close to your limit.

I'm with nildram (50gb limit daytimes, unlimited nighttimes, £26) and you can log into your account and see your exact usage statistics, inc how much you have left... it's pretty smart. Anythjing you dont use one month gets carried over to the next. For some reason they keep carryiing over 50Gb everymonth, so i get 100Gb! actually handy as last month i dled 90Gb.

    Browsing obviously.

    hope that helped some.

50 Gb is usually more than enough unless you do a lotof ISO's, films, tv etc. Sounds like f2s has what you want with 50Gb and if required for minimal cost you get 100Gb which should be more than enough.
